wrap cloth around either crank arm or metal rod. no movement is not a good sign :/

I second the 6pt screwdriver method, and yeah, wrap the crank up with something

Only 3 hours to go and collect in Aylesford, Rohloff and fillet brazed frame, very nice. £500 atm.

I've had success with using a lockring spanner, but obviously requires an appropriate BB. What's the method of holding the EBB insert?

This looks awesome and affordable but why no discs?
You can select a fork with disc mounts though.

A CX fork though. Seems a bit of an oversight/compromise

A straight road disc fork would have been perfect, and can't be hard to have added tab on the rear for it

Hired a tandem from http://hireatandem.com it was great, did 100km with my (non-cycling) girlfriend on the back. Despite the photo she did pedal most of the time. The owner was great, if you mention my name (David Ross) if you rent it we both get a discount I think.
The honky horn elevated the usual response from "There's a tandem!" to unbridled glee.

That Dolan claims 23mm clearance... more of a racing machine?

Makes the option of a CX fork even stranger...

It's an old design. Obviously if you were starting from now, you'd have a tapered steerer and clearance for 28s on a race bike.

Headtube aside, neither fork options are their design so could they not have just chosen a carbon disc road fork for the bundle? There are plenty from the east that they could rebrand

Is crabon safe for tandem?

Using a ~400mm CX fork instead of a ~370mm road fork gives more flexibility to go touring :-)
The fork obviously has loads of tyre clearance, if there's a problem it's going to be between the chainstays. I doubt that the 23mm stated is right, Dolan are notably sloppy about providing accurate information. My trackdem tyres are 26mm actual size and they're nowhere near a snug fit anywhere on the bike.

Is crabon safe fit tandem?
It is if you use enough of it. I wouldn't use a <300g road fork on a tandem, but even that is probably more superstition than physics, a good one is probably stronger than the 531 forks which have served generations of tandemists.

Depends on the load when you hit that pothole, Shirley?

• #573
I take it you rode the A21 back into town? :)

Depends on the load when you hit that pothole
You can break anything if you hit it hard enough, at least modern forks are actually tested and the impact test is more stringent for carbon forks than metal ones
