What's the reach? Shimano 57mm dual pivots are good, if you need more than that you'll be looking at Tektro

I think 57 may be at the very limit, so it looks like I'd need Tektro R559.
They'd cost 40% of the cost of the bike, but it would be nice to be able to stop in a timely manner

Nice bike you have there, can I ask if your dynamo powers the rear light too? If so what cable have you used? I have a Shimano dynamo on my tandem and need to hook up front and rear lights

I don't know where most people stand on this, but I've modified a couple of sets of Shimano dual pivot brake calipers before to achieve longer reach. I took a needle file and lengthened the slot on each caliper arm so that the brake shoe sat 1-2 mm lower. Intuitively it doesn't feel like the caliper arms lose any strength but I'm maybe not being cautious enough.

It's better to use a long reach brake at the short end of its reach, you get more mechanical advantage than by using a shorter reach brake at the maximum extent of its reach. Adding reach by filing the slots or using offset shoes obviously makes things worse, even without considering that both are inherently less safe than unmodified brakes.

Anyone know of a project tandem or something fairly ratty in the South West area? Fancy trying a tandem with the GF as she's always being left behind on rides. Will need to be suitable or adaptable to a 6'1 pilot and 5'2 stoker though...

I've got a tandem that might be up for sale but it's in good condition (although it could do with new paint).
I'm 6'6, Mrs Hobs is 5'5, size wise we are both at the extremes of it, would likely fit.
Would usually head SW fairly regularly, if it wasn't for Covid.

Looks great! I also bought the kiddy adaptors. Can't wait to have time to set them up. Although I wish I'd been able to find a short enough silver crankset. All I could find were black ones.
yeah frames were the same, the t100 and t200 hat racier parts and handlebars.
i just stuck some 40mm g-ones on it and there's still quite some clearance, which is nice. might even fit 48s...... but don't tell the gravel people, they'll just blow up the price for old trek tandems :)
the frame on the bench is indeed a salsa, a vaya in RAL5020
