  • hydro is a bit of a coup - @Hovis has the maguras on his too. Think yours is a '91, I've got a solo in that colour. re: the different level top tube, surely there's not much to it? just provides a slightly reduced standover height for the stoker.
don't worry about the flex, it's not awful and the benefit of it being a reasonably standard tubeset is it doesn't weigh a ton.

  • @richjames the top tubes being different(and so lower saddle and lower handlebars for the back rider) just means the bike was setup originally for 2 people of different sizes to ride together.

Similar to a frame like this(but this is more extreme so the back rider is a child).

  • Lovely stuff. That seemed like the obvious thing, and a good idea as my girlfriend is a good foot shorter than me.

I'll post back when we've had a chance to give it a spin. Looking out for the next board ride too.

  • I've got virtually the same Dawes, less equipped though. About time to post it here:

  • Very tidy, I like it. Are those airwing bars for the stoker?

  • I don't really know, it came with the bike when I bought it. Any sort of aero something is completely lost on my girlfriend though, she prefers it twisted the other way around like a porter. She finds it more comfy, but prob better to see what's ahead too:

  • This is my local club, don't think they have been out this year on it as I haven't seen it at the TT's.

  • I have yet another super galaxy for the thread, just back from a muddy 60km around the back lanes of north Somerset:

We could probably do with offset top tubes given the saddle height difference. I don't mind the saddle-bar drop though; it's about the same as my other bikes.

With graduation looming and the summer being my last extended period of freedom for a long, long time (hopefully, kind of). My thoughts have come to cramming in as much touring as possible and so a fortnight of tandeming around Europe is on the cards. (The stoker has more constraints on holiday, being a medic. Plus anything longer would be a bit ambitious for our first tour anyway.)

Two features that are unfortunately missing from this Dawes are the 3rd bottle cage bolt holes (on the diagonal tube) and front rack eyelets on the fork blades. It seems like @6pt and @ough have both of these, and @richjames has the bottle cage. It looks like you've got a clamp on arrangement for the front rack? I suspect I'll do the same, probably using these:

This would allow me to use a front rack for some light touring on my audax-ish road bike as well, so not all bad. Moving on from those issues, the previous owner seems to have done a lot of modernising (apologies for 'other drive side' photo) but not much riding, which is nice for us. I'm not sure how I'll get on with flat bars for longer rides but they're useful for the local muddy and pothole riddled cycle paths and lanes. I think some bar end extensions might be a good investment to give some more hand position options for touring.

  • Glad you're already thinking of touring :)

  • Absolutely, spending a lot of time reading your blogs at the moment! They're really useful. We're thinking about doing a similar route to frain, though we're yet to decide what sort of mileage would be most enjoyable.

  • Anyone after a cheap tandem?

  • Talk to me @lynx - whaddaya got?

  • What blogs are thesE?

  • I would advise against following the vezere at high season, and if you can get as far south as the Lot to follow it into cahors from the east you're in for a treat.

  • I got nuffin' but going to send you abuse via PM ;)

  • I've got a tandem that's been sitting in the garage for too long, anyone want to buy it?

Its got Velo Orange hammered fenders now

  • Details are handy such as sizes and how much you want.

  • and, as it's a peugeout, seatpost diameters and threads...

  • This just popped up on ebay if anyone is after a change. Too far for me to collect otherwise I'd be tempted. Not many of these around!

    http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=221620871398&globalID=EBAY-GB&alt=web

  • Not sure the best way to measure it, so here are a few dimensions:

    Front - 54cm ctc
Rear - 63cm ctc - thats from the ST to ST, roughly 50cm reach.

    Stand over- 78cm

Its got a nice strong light chain set and rear drum brake

    Threads unknown presumably french

Around £300, let me know if this is way off.

I'll make a proper thread for it, but thought I'd spam here first.

  • Well I think my dreams are dashed. The tandem is fucked after a mate took it out at a party and crashed it. I'm pretty gutted. Forks obviously fucked but I am pretty sure the headset is twisted too. I didn't even get a proper go on it.

  • oh no! frame looks ok though?

  • They said it was worse than that at Brixton cycles and would need a new headset put in and check if any of the other tubes are damaged.

  • Oh no. I am gutted on your behalf.

  • These things are recoverable. Framebuilders can switch tubes, forks can be replaced. Don't give up!
