  • Dead right, my Miche hub and Campag BB and chainset work in perfect harmony.

  • any idea where i can find the required spacer to make my miche hub, sprocket and lockring co-operate with each other? Just struck out at my lbs and evans on the cut.

  • Brick Lane Bikes ROFL

  • lol

  • non-bb anti Miche related moan: miche primato hub, miche track sprocket and miche lockring all combine to make... nothing remotely rideable. there's too much thread for the sprocket and not enough for the lockring so it's impossible to get the whole thing anywhere near touching, let along tight. Not a big deal as i'll just get a spacer tomorrow but it just annoys me that three components with the same name on apparently designed to work together... don't. And that means yet another day on foot.

    Sounds a bit weird.

I have had 2 different full miche setups, hub, cog and lockring; all fitted together perfectly on both.

You shouldn't need a spacer. Sounds like something is screwy, send it back as in my experience, they fit together perfectly without.

  • it sounds like you need the carrier, Hippy had one for sale the other day try him

  • 4 years using Miche on 2 bikes, I've used 2x sets of hubs 2x C/sets 1x H/set and had problems with none of them.

They might not be the best quality but this is shown in the price (lock ring included).

If your having problems your either using the wrong tools or are ham fisted.

    I like Miche

  • Their lockrings are shit tho'...

  • EAI, Hubjub, £8

  • They don't fit...

  • Do too, to doo!

  • Their lockrings are shit tho'...

I've been using them and I will not deny they are cheap and badly made but as long as you use a lock ring spanner with the right amount of notches they are generaly OK, I've only fucked them when rushing and using the wrong tool.

  • -1 for their headsets too. pants.

I'm really not, promise you dude. the width of the sprocket thread on a brand new miche primato hub is wider than the miche carrier/sprocket. so when you do up carrier/sprocket all the way it leaves about a mm of "normal" thread exposed. so when you put on the lockring it gets to the end of it's reverse thread a mm before coming into contact with the carrier. i'm not forcing anything, or even using any tools. you can check all this by threading it on finger tight and using your peepers.

I've got a 1/8" chainwhip and correct sized c-spanner all ready to go but applying either of these to the current situation is only going to fuxor things up.

i'm sure it'll all work wonderfully when i've got the right spacer (i've had miche hubs before and had no complaints) but this really isn't user error and it does seem pretty silly.

  • My comment wasn't aimed at you I just felt like balancing the thread a little.

Where did you get the hubs from? I've never had any issues but I've also never used Miche sprokets.

  • s'cool, i bought them here from re-cycled. still in they's box they was.

all of this is double annoying as i'd bought a nice surly sprocket from cycle surgery on Pentonville Rd and despite it saying 1/8" on the sticker, when i got it home noticed that the actual sprocket was labelled 3/32". I noticed right after i'd thrown the receipt away. I took it back yesterday but they couldn't do any refunds without the receipt. they did however have a much cheaper Miche sprocket in the right size they were willing to exchange. "oh well" I thought... "at least I know it'll fit".

  • They wouldn't refund an incorrectly labelled product? Or even just swap it? That's terrib...

Oh just realised it's Cycle Drudgery.

  • hey dooks, i'm sorry the hubs are causing you greif, and equally i'm glad i bought some phils instead:)

did you ever try the surly? do you know if other sprockets other then the miche ones fit without a spacer?

  • Co-operation is the norm, not cut throat competition.

And making up proprietary standards is a good way of doing that?

Its just retarded. If Miche and Campagnolo had some sort of agreement where Miche would slightly adjust the machining of their cranks to take a 111mm bb natively, that would be cooperation.

I think you're romanticising Italian business.

  • I don't. If Campag wanted Miche out of business they could do it quite easily. As it is, they license their proprietary standards to Miche to allow an active after market of lower cost consumables which is mutually beneficial to both.

they would have exchanged it had they had one. but they didn't hence going for the miche. they were pretty decent all things considered. suppose i could have waited till they got one in or gone to another shop. i just figured the miche would fit so the cost differential didn't really bother me that much.

@re-cycled, no worries dude. like i said i'm sure they'll be fine once i get them set up properly. will probs change to phils at some point in the future too.

I get what you're saying but wouldn't it be even more beneficial for both companies if Miche used 111mm bbs? I'm sure Miche would sell more cranks and Campag's bb sales would sky-rocket.

Miche would probably make more money through the extra sales than they are currently supplying their own proprietary bottom bracket.

I totally agree that they should co-exist but if they're going to, they should do it properly.

Miche do make a 111mm BB. For use with their double chainset, same as older campag.

BB length is something that people have only really cared about in the last couple of years with the 'Fixie' thing.

I know quite a few very fast, competitive track cyclists, who use the 'Wrong' length and win lots and lots of races. It simply doesn't matter.

Anything in the 107-111mm ISO is fine for pretty much any square taper, miche old and new, sugino 75, Dura ace 7600, any Campag Record Pista (Nuovo, Super, Corsa and current).

Its 2mm (max) for f*cks sake.

  • Its 2mm (max) for f*cks sake.

    Abso-bloody-exactly!

  • 'spose.

Its just nice when everything is perfect.
