Alright guys, just converted my old 70s 10 speed to a fixed gear. still a work in progress which explains the shabby paint, you'll see it outside new look eldon square and around newcastle uni buildings.
here's the bike

Anyway I'm off to go get the tag

Don't worry thats next on the list of things to do, i'm gonna replace the old cottered cranks and double chainset and get some new pedals with straps while im at it

• #405
Needs more red on it
-
• #406
haha. Plan on getting the frame repainted in a bright blue, but with detailing on the forks/frame done in red. Getting a tan saddle from velosolo and a red crank and chainring. Then some white pedals, tan leather straps and tan handlebar tape/ Probably treat myself to a small red brake lever and a new stem too eventually.
anyone know where I can get a good and CHEAP paintjob done?

Grind the unnecessary lugs off the frame for a cleaner look, before you repaint, IMHO
Bettablast is your friend for powdercoat

I tried the cheap paintjob option with a load of spray cans, not surprisingly it turned out canny shit. I've heard good things about http://www.bettablast.co.uk/bettablast/home.html

what wheels are they joe? im pondering the idea of making everything on my bike red
-

Cheers, ill check them out at some point over the summer, how much should i be looking to spend on that? i was planning on doing a rattlecan job but i tried that on my motorbike after a crash, and it didnt look too great so i was a bit hesitant.
And andy i got them on ebay as a set, 2 wheels with flip flop hub on the back incl tires and tubes for 75 quid on bids, theyre a brand called 'no logo' seem great though, specially for what i spent on them (im trying to do it on a budget coz im only a student and i want it to add up to less than a yearly bus ticket!) so im not fussed about name as long as quality is good. Ill try and find a link for you though
edit: anyone willing to help me grind off the lugs? being at uni ive not got many tools apart from the essentials)

You just can't get a quality finish from a can (as I'm sure you know) and BB will sand-blast your frame and forks then powdercoat them for about 40 bucks all in for a single colour. You'd struggle to find a painter to do it for that.
Hacksaw and file will sort out your braze-ons. A grinder is a bit fierce (don't ask how I know).

40 quid is less than i was expecting for a pro job to be honest, ill definitely give them a bell at some point over the summer. and yeah i reckon ill just saw them off and sand it down, theres so many little bits on there from mudguard, gears, lights, dynamo, pump etc, lookin forward to a cleaner look.
heres a picture of the bike when i first got it so you can see ive done a fair bit to it
and yeah, check your inbox

just built up the hardisty for the weekend. now just to see how it rides
I'll keep my eyes on it - I only live 5 mins from the Tyne so I'll defo come down for that, but I'll keep my eyes peeled for anything beforehand.
@ShannonPursuit - nothing exciting I'm afraid, it's from a t-shirt I wore every day through primary school, just stuck (the name, not the t-shirt). I reckon you can 007 if you really want to...
