My friends brother almost had one of his alloy wheels stolen off his car...He only found out they'd tried to steal it when the wheel flew of at 60mph.
One of the nuts was a security nut, so they'd obviously undone the others and then gave up when they got to the security nut.
Luckily it was late at night and a straight bit of A road.
Never get how ppl do shit like that.

Train station lock-up is at the top of a hill. Hopped on, rolled down, got to t-junction, couldn't stop.
Thieving little bastards.
What a ridiculous crime, could have killed someone for 99p of cheap, five-year-old, bottom-of-the-range brake blocks.
[Rant over. Maybe.]
Unlucky!
I would have thought most people instinctively engage the brakes when they swing their leg over to keep the bike from moving.
I do...
Glad you are ok, anyway.

Nope, I run along side for a few strides, then leap gracefully into the air, arc over the bike and land saddle-first with my legs already spinning at 180rpm. Or something.

I tightened the brakes of a death trap langster the other day. I've probably saved the owner's life.
Good samaritans FTW! -

Try the security nut first and see if its worth continuing, of course not. Just feck things up untill you're forced to give up.
FFS!

I had my brakes loosened once, although fortunately the brake blocks weren't stolen. Perhaps they were disturbed just before that happened. Luckily, I wasn't at the top of a hill at the time, but it was still worrying enough. I can't quite remember when and where it was, though. Glad you managed to keep upright and weren't hurt!

Just had another look, and three blocks are stolen - one left. Fume.

i had the classic, going down a hill and then the stem decided it wasn't going to hold the handlebars anymore - at all.
was able to keep holding the handlebars (though only attached to the bike by the brake and gear cables) and use the brake to slow down very carefully, to a stop... all of course, balancing the bike like when you ride no handed :S
scary moment

is this a newly formed epidemic? had my back brake blocks stolen friday last week... thankfully the kind soul had the forethought to cut my brake cable into several peices to alert me to the problem...

I can't believe that there was never a mash-up of that video and the Bush incident. Nothing. Astonishing.

Bought new pads earlier. Just fitted them in the time it took to boil the kettle. Sorted. Well, not sorted - the bike is still falling to pieces, but it should just about stop now at least.
Last day in this office. Colleagues thought I was a freak for cycling. I think they'll be glad that I am going to stop cluttering the kitchen with bikes and crap.

I wonder if Ed is going to suggest we put ball bearings in our brake pad bolts? ;)

My brake is kaput =[, looks like I'll be riding brakless until my new bike is finished.
youre joking right?
otherwise that comment is pure cowshit,
riders are unsafe, freewheels arent.
