Curious about the insurance here, since I don't know much about driving.
Will you lose your unclaimed bonus thingy?depend - if you want to keep it - pay for the damage with your own money, the insurance is there if you can't afford to pay for the damage of the cars.
Dov, glad you're alright, if you can afford to pay for the damage, you should able to keep your no-claim bonus.

£36k Cab into a traffic Island loss of earnings and any other injuries will come to much more than a £250 excess and loss of NCB

I've often wondered about what TYPE of person opens a car door on the traffic side, without looking.
I've been car-doored, and not only did it total my bike, it put me in hospital.
Ho ho ho. It was really funny.

glad you are ok
so now to add to the list of road dangers (cabbies, cosmetically enhanced oligarchs girlfriends in convertibles, dancing james etc etc) we have to add Dovvles

Sounds like the cab should have been riding wide.
Did the impact set off any airbags and so forth, or just rip the door straight off with no other effects?

Ouch. I did laugh but that could potentially have been quite serious for your arm (or a cyclist, as pointed out). I once hired a car to drive to Cambridge where I promptly opened the drivers door, causing a female cyclist to wobble and fall off her bike. I felt very bad and now always check and double check the mirror. You were distracted though.
On the bike I'm very wary of car doors, tend to ride further out in the road rather than be anywhere near them.
Didn't have you down as a Mondeo man. Hmm.

Door may have been Dov's fault, not sure the driving into a traffic island bit was. Sounds like Mr Taxi may have been going to fast.

I may have just destroyed my mac.... trying to stifle a laugh - coffee had to exit - so took my nasal passages as the exit route. It was a lovely java spray.
I have got to say Dov, I read most of your posts with a huge smile across my face - but I'm glad you're alright. Hope all gets sorted. -

Sometimes it's best to experience something like this.
You'll probably double check your mirror every single time you get out the car.Best it be car damage than human damage.
Glad you're alright. -

Will you lose your unclaimed bonus thingy? Can only of been your fault, not looking in the mirror. Thank fuck it was not a cyclist.
Nice car by the way. Have you stopped shaking yet?
Unlucky mate.
