  • So is there anything else we shouldn't take? I feel bad about this if this wasn't supposed to happen until you've been in, but I gather it's mostly second hand jumble stuff left now anyways.

I hope Jos gets the stuff back that he wants.

  • I feel bad about this if this wasn't supposed to happen until you've been in,

if you feel strongly there's always the option of not going.

    sorry if i missed something.

  • I doubt I have any of Jos's personal effects, but I'll post pics of what I have and he can have back anything he wants.

  • Does the landlord own what he is selling?

  • I am off to collect the stuff from TdV.

It saddens me that the OP didn't contact Jos, who is (was?) after all a frequent used of this forum, to find out if it was legitimate sale.

Both Winston & I were with Jos the night before he left town and I'm sure this isn't how he perceived the end of TdV uk to play out.

  • Jumbletastic! Loads of bits: stems, cogs, bars, forks, clothing etc. Well worth a visit if you're local.

Particularly bearing in mind the fact Jos does (or did) use the forum, might it be worth people who posted based on incomplete info (talk of midnight flits etc) editing their comments. Sad to see the shop go and don't like the idea Jos might read things like this at what i'm imagining isn't the easiest time...

  • Is the sale LEGIT?

Are there FACTS which can be shared?

  • Is the sale legitimate as in has Jos authorised it?

No he hasn't, he hasn't even finished clearing out his stuff yet.

    +1. bloody vultures

  • Following on from what Caspar said....actually that evening we spoke about other things mostly, not just TDV so can't claim hard facts.

However I would agree that this is not what Jos anticipated if anything I think he would have preferred to see this stuff go for free to those who want / need it...as a sort of parting gesture.

Here is the summary of my limited and possibly flawed understanding....the stock is owned by TDV, as far as I'm aware there is no trading dispute between TDV and landlord so the landlord has no moral or legal claim to TDV assets....Unless we discover that Jos or someone else from TDV has authorised anyone to sell or dispense of TDV property...

If you must pick the bones of TDV for the personal benefit of the landlord, please be respectful of the fact that Jos still has personal effects in the building.....

Finally, Jos and Ross knew their stuff, any frames left were mostly bent / damaged if you've spent 50 sovs on one you most probably bought a lemon....

  • Winnie, have Jos and Tanya left for good now?

  • Winnie, have Jos and Tanya left for good now?

Yes, don't worry I have what your thinking of at my flat.....

  • shame about TdV moving on a bit. absolutely awesome shop. i was really grateful to keith for readying my bike the alps last year, and to jos for being brilliant at finding some very rare and usual bits and pieces.

where the hell in london can we expect to buy shades like these? - good luck online jos, hope it flourishes dude

  • pound shop? oxfam? um the dodgy guy in shades shop?

    B)

  • fashion eats itself alive shop?
    hipsters r us?

  • have you finished with borrowing them yet ray? i could use them in this lovely winter brightness we are having

  • shh.shit. duped again.

(classic turn around gag, gotta love it)

  • +1. bloody vultures
in defence of those who purchased items, how were they to know? when i had a look around yesterday, i had no idea jos would be back for any of that stuff which looks unwanted tbh.

  • if you feel strongly there's always the option of not going.

    sorry if i missed something.

Feeling bad isn't feeling 'strongly' imo.
That's why I asked if there's other stuff we shouldn't take.

    Thanks for your advice though.

  • I think it's pretty sad that people's first reaction was to get as much stuff as they could for themselves without even asking the landlord why he was selling it. Jos was a regular on here and very generous to a lot of events organised in London. That famous "lfgss family spirit" might have come in handy. More importantly he's been a legend since way before anyone even dreamed of this forum. Hope him and Ross have got their stuff sorted.

  • I've been and secured the stuff that isn't for sale, it is mostly personal effects & posters.

Pick that carcass bare, they are makeing the prices up off the tops of their heads but as you can imagine there is very little of any worth int here. Lots of cogs, freewheels, tatty old H/bars 2nd hand tyres some fantasticly garish clothing.

  • You think the landlord would tell us? We can only speculate what happened. Maybe the landlords were owed money and the stuff they sold went to recoup his debit, which would be a good thing for Jos right? Or maybe he did want the stuff but he knew it was happening so could have had his contact here tell us he wanted it, in which case obviously no one would have gone.

What was left in the shop was what he didn't take, and to be honest, most of it wasn't very good, so the assumption on most people's part is that he's left it behind on purpose. If there's a SALE sign outside the shop, people will buy stuff so why not go to the forumongers?

I've made a £5 donation to the forum in lieu of this even though I only bought two really scuffed up saddles and some other toot.

It is sad, but it sounds like the blame probably lies more squarely with the landlord than anything else. I imagine he was saying that they left all this stuff behind, and sowing the implication that he had to sell it (to get monies back). If I was told that yarn I'm not sure I would think to check with the original owner, I don't think that makes me bad.

I don't know Jos, but I hope he manages to sort this out, sounds like a nightmare.

  • The landlord is fine, there is no bad blood between him & Jos. There were communcation issues at the heart of the matter & the sale started earlier than had been expected.

    All is good now.
