  • It's the lack of service history that rings bells for me. Nothing else.

It's not hard to keep a history. If you can't be arsed to keep one, why would you be arsed to look after the bike?

I've got a little note book with everything I've done to my ktm in it. Takes a moment to do, but good to have a record.

  • Yup, since I got the SV, I've kept every single thing down dated and priced down to the LED's installed, even if I've done the work myself.
Not sure why it's hard to keep a history either. I reckon that will henceforth be the crux to all my purchases. I shall put my card down till I find a suitable steed. Might as well spend the money on track days instead.

  • Oh man I digress, but the roads here are post-apocalyptic....especially in LA proper. There are cracks and crevices in the freeways that could hide an underground rail network... :)

Sounds like you're going about it in a clear headed fashion, service book aside - when people are vague about it, it's usually because they've never done any servicing. Wouldn't put me off an older bike per se, but the owner should be able to tell you where they've had it worked on so you can check with the mechanics. If it's super low mileage, I'd worry less.

Good luck with the hunt - generally for me, if it feels good on the test ride, it usually is.

Unless it's a two stroke. Those little fuckers can feel amazing just before they go pop.

  • Dang, really? Youtube had me believing you guys had roads carved out of mountains by god with a very large, very hot iron. So much for California highways. The shit do I dream of coming out there if you're not even going to offer me blissful, plod free riding conditions. Might as well head far east!

I digress too, if It was anything over 20 years old, I'd take it with a pinch of salt, but this this a bike under 10 that's a fait bit of dollar bill for me, so I'd rather have some semblance of peace of mind. Thing is, at this juncture, low mileage ones fetch mega bucks, so I'd be happy with a mid mileage one that has a stack of paper to it.
First bike I had was a an Aprillia RS. That lasted 50miles out of a 100 before I saw blue smoke, red eyes, and £ signs before my eyes. That might have been the most laughable 50 miles I've ever done though.

Would give many notes for an RG125.

  • Logical there matey, makes sense. Good luck with the hunt, they look like wicked bikes. I had an Aprilia AF1 back in the paleolithic era....blew up a freshly rebuilt crank in less than 1000 miles. Bloody thing. Was good when it worked though.

There are some great canyon roads...often pretty well surfaced. The nearest one to me is the Angeles Crest which is rightly famed - about a 20 minute ride to get there. I don't ride it much as it's proper fast, with lots of blind, tightening radius corners. If you're having fun, you're doubling the speed limit and then some....which is no good for an implant like me. The canyons up around Malibu are great but a hour or sos unpleasant freeway battering to get to.

  • The canyons up around Malibu are great but a hour or sos unpleasant freeway battering to get to.

    I can confirm this...

  • Renewal just came in, was £100 last year and £300 this year with no changes. They can fuck right off!

  • Who was that with?
I am with MCE at the moment but due a renewal soon, think it was about £400 last year (only my 2nd year of big licence) hoping it drops a bit, but I do 10k miles a year commuting

  • This years TT safety campaign.
    It's grim.

  • so sad. just in case anybody wonders, the later riders pulled over further along.

  • Shit the bed.
    Horrific.

  • That's horrific, deeply saddening.

  • Christ, wtf was he doing.

  • Catching up on the Cookstown 100 and the NW 200. Not seen any results, even if Guy Martin doesn't place, he's such a nice bloke, it's good to see him back on a bike.

  • Fuck!

I thought they made it all one way round the island when the TT was on?

TBH, having watched some videos people have put up of 'mad sunday' or whatever they call it, I'm not entirely surprised to see something like that. Tipping into corners 2 or 3 abreast at 120mph+ is fine when you've spent years racing beside those other riders and know how they ride, doing it alongside Tom and Dick that get their Hayabusas out every other dry Sunday between April and September and that you met on the ferry over is quite different and is the biggest thing that puts me off going to the TT.

  • Just over the mountain and just on mad Sunday for one way I believe. What a stupid waste.

  • I was with Bennetts last year, won't be this year.

  • That film is harrowing. :(

  • Bennetts are worth avoiding - now lusting after something big, fast, antisocial with a variety of snorty 4 into 1's available - been looking at Blackbirds and Thundercats or the Blades in those cracking centenery colours - can't make myself like the modern stuff.

  • Nope, The mountain is one way from the friday before practice week until the monday after race week.
That accident happened on the Thursday before.
Lets hope there is less this year.

  • You need to call them and get it reduced again, it's a little scam they like to run to see who's paying attention to the numbers on their bills. Especially effective if they also scam you into automatic renewals.

  • They are the modern stuff. :)

  • Big? Fast? Antisocial? 4 into 1? Maybe a full Yoshimura system?

I have a Kawasaki ZX12R which I want to sell if it's of any interest to you.
