  • Side stand on. Half wondering whether I bother buying a lower centre stand for now.

    Really enjoying the low stance.

  • Bit of a lean...

Dresser bars also installed - the fog light project is still in the planning process.

  • Totally would. looking fucking spectacular. Not generally a fan of this motorcycle, but would totally rock this. Reckon it could do with a more subtle instrument panel. Mix of modern and old school. You ever consider straight pipes?

  • Yep. Want to buy it?

  • Potentially.

    Details? Model? Mileage? Etc

  • It's a 2006 model with carbs, checkerboard stripes and clip on bars. Black with silver mudguards. It's only done about 10k miles and was serviced a year ago and hasn't done many miles since. Fitted with TOR pipes (vgc originals in a box if you want it to sound quiet) air injection delete, flyscreen and bar end mirrors. Always garaged.

  • From experience: the centre stand is really good if your bike is parked and gets driven into by a van driver who didn't see it. Side stand means it's more likely to just drop. Centre stand it'll just skid.

    Bike is looking fantastic btw.

  • I'm only a sample of one but this is incorrect.

Van driver hit mine in Jan when it was on the centre stand. Span it 180 degrees and knocked it over.

  • Maybe I'll downgrade that to 'at low speeds' then. This guy just reversed into it and I reckon it'd have been upright if it wasn't on the sidestand.

  • And hates the fucking rain...

  • Looking to overhaul the front end of the SV as the seals are breaking apart and I imagine the oil hasn't ever been changed. Also want to install some linear springs whilst I'm at it. Anyone know any decent suspension specialist that wouldn't charge a left kidney to do this? I'd do it myself, but I haz no space.

  • Offer of space...

I'd go with thicker oil first as that seems to help SV. But take your pick on what amount/air gap to leave. (92-100mm)

Here is a list of fork oil wieghts http://mahonkin.com/~milktree/motorcycle/fork-oil.html

  • Much obliged. I will take you up on that as long as I hope I'm not imposing. Just gotta collect the rest of the gubbins/parts.

Heavier oil is the plan too. For my weight, a 10w seems recommended, but I do prefer a slightly stiffer ride so might mix and for a 12w, either that or just go for Silkolene 20w.
I'd like to replace the springs as well simply because I've opted for a stiffer shock at the back, and I'd like to balance things out.

  • You ever consider straight pipes?

Probably going to install VW Beetle tail pipes.

The only thing is up close the end of heat shields look a bit shit/miss matched. And even 2nd hand you're looking at +£60 for a pair if you wanted to cut them up.

  • centre stand

Definitely keeping a centre stand. It's just a question of whether I get a lower one so I'm not obliged to find a sloped surface to use it.

  • But looks effing sexy with an open face helmet and leather jacket.

  • Any chance you could take a photo of the wiring around the front indicators?

Are they all tucked into the head light?

I think someone has messed about with mine in the past.

  • Yes, and I was joking, the bike is fine in the wet, BQ hates a continental downpour though

  • The two options a hagon in hainault or ohlins

Might be worthwhile to chat to stevejordam motorcycles and see what they advise. They used to race sv650.

  • Should have sorted that. One HT lead boot was not properly seated on the CDI

  • Yeah it was Stevejordan that pulled me towards the linear springs as I was set on Progressive, but apparently, if you're a lighter rider, the bike will bounce all over the place until you're tight into a corner, then everything will stiffen up.
The racetech springs they offer get decent reviews and seem to be made of quality material.

  • So you'll be getting springs and oil from them?

  • Very likely yes. Saying that, your opinion on this is very much welcome if you know a better alternative? I'm but a noob at this.

  • Do it yourself chak. I did mine, super simple.
Make you you look up the viscocitys of the oils as the weights they give are all over the shop depending upon brand.

Simple job. Buy a few tools, a good seal driver is useful. I used a motion pro one.

  • If it were me, as I am a cheapskate I'd try thicker oil. It is a service item, but if you fancy changing the springs and oil then steve advice I'd take as gospel he and his wife raced sv. Get the oil and the springs and the air gap and it is easily done.
