Yes to both. Labour is only £200 of that.
I'm going to see if I can pick up all the parts myself at a cheaper price first...
-
• #9178
Is it worth doing the bare minimum and get it all fixed at the end of the lease?
-
• #9179
It's basically good to go now though I'll need new bars as they're bent by a couple of degrees.
I know the guys who run AJ Sutton so I'm waiting to hear back on how cheap they can get the rest of the parts...

Renthals for the quick fix?

• #9182
Kept on my driveway (in a nice neighbourhood but still) and used for about 6,000 miles of commuting in Central London a year. It's also a 900cc and i'm only 30 so...
Third party is still just shy of £800.
Update on the incident itself -
City of London office (who own a couple of CCTV cameras nearby) phoned me yesterday to say they may have captured all / part of the incident on CCTV but can't release it without a police request. Potentially awesome news.
Spoke to the police today. 3 departments and 4 numbers later, i speak with a woman who says that it's met policy to not request CCTV unless there's been an injury and there's nothing they can do.
EVERYBODY CAN FUCK OFF AND DIE.
@Constable_Savage - how the fuck did you manage to work in such a shitty system?

I'd get in touch win insurance company. Did you get legal cover? Under fully comp. Either way, they'll get their hands on the cctv. So they don't have to pay out!
And great news!

@soul how helpful were the CCTV footage owners?
Could you convince them to release it?Or as skinny says, insurance company.

I'm Third Party.
I'm also super reluctant to involve my insurance company unless there's concrete proof and a very high likelihood of a positive outcome.
In Feb of last year, a driver bumped into the back of our car at a junction because they weren't paying attention. They admitted it, their insurance covered the replacement bumper (about £2k all in, including courtesy car) and it was all sorted inside a month without my no claims being affected.
When i came to renew, my insurance (with the same and any other insurer) has now gone up 25% for the next 5 years because, statistically (according to the insurers) i'm more likely now to be involved in another accident.
A 25% increase in my motorbike insurance, over 5 years, would be more than the cost of paying for the items myself.
As for CCTV, aside from a phone confirming they have something which might be able to locate the driver who could have hit the bike (there was no direct footage showing my bike) they're unwilling to release the footage to anyone who isn't police.
^
TLDR: the cost of resolving this myself is cheaper than getting insurance involved (unless i can locate the driver without police help). -

I can confirm that all coppers are bastards. Every force (service) is feeling the pinch. Unless there's an injury/death/ certainty of conviction they don't want to know. It was very frustrating for the coppers too.

I never got to speak to a 'copper' i don't think. Just phone center people telling me they couldn't help. They're there to be a barrier between getting results and saving money.
Can't help but wonder what would have happened if i got to speak to someone responsible for making a CCTV request directly. I guess i'll never know :)

Did you third party not come with legal cover?
Have you got home insurance? Often they have legal cover. -
• #9189
No mention of legal cover on the policy documents.
I'll speak to the CCTV guys again tomorrow and see where I get.
Luckily I have a contact at a large motorbike parts supplier so am waiting for confirmation that I can get all parts at cost which should save a fair chunk of cash.

I think that's bullshit on not releasing footage FYI. If there is a crime.
I'd get googling and find a lawyer to submit a request. There must be a way.
Such balls the police are wankers. I've lost all respect for them in recent years.
Write to your local MP complaining about police not cooperating?
Write to your local police commissioner?Get inventive.
-
• #9191
To be honest, as there's not a camera covering the bike directly, I'm not going to waste any money getting footage.
If I can get it for free and view it myself, I'll pursue the legal route if it's clear.
-
• #9192
That's why I said see if home insurance or moto has legal cover.
I'd still write to MP and local police commissioner explaining police won't do anything and tell them it's not acceptable.

Anyone used burwin on Essex road to do repairs? It's too cold/rainy to do any work.
-
• #9194
You don't like being cold and wet, what attracted you to motorbikes in the first place ? :)
-
• #9195
One that runs and doesn't have a stuck throttle tube
-
• #9196
Are you just going from the symptoms of a sticky throttle, or you know that the throttle tube is the issue? I had one which was just a problem with the bar end rubbing on the handgrip rubber, the throttle grip had crept a little on the bar. Had me scratching my head for a while.
-
• #9197
Yeah burwins are nice, to me.....sometimes.
Am nearby and have a warm covered area if you need.
-
• #9198
I've used Burwins for MOTs & new rear tyre. They seem alright. I always do my own repairs though, so can't comment on that side of things.
-
• #9199
Burwins are ok I think - mainly used for MOTs and tyres but they have also serviced my wife's scooter. Pretty well priced and no surprises.
