Valve check and all fluids changed? Do they do anything else?

Tight spots - clean and a lube of the chain, maybe paint on some gear oil and make sure that the tight spots aren't tight when adjusting the chain.

  • they changed plugs, oil and filter brake fluid and anti-freeze and 'grease - lubes and cleaners'

  • yesterday i went to margate on a beano and purely by coincidence there was a massive motorcycle meet up. lots of scooters and leather waistcoats with "brotherhood this" and "chapter that" emblazoned on the back. ace cafe had a stage playing rock n roll. margate was alive.

    did anybody go?

Yep. I should have gone back to the home town and seen the folks as well.

It was an Ace Café do with the Trustees of Dreamland - 40th Anniversary of mods and rockers fighting on the beach.....Anybody remember this?
I'm just old enough to remember.

No fork oil, or valve clearance?

Valve clearance is mileage related...there are only two cylinders and not as if there are loads of fairing to take off.

  • So the TT eh?! thought this thread would be a hive of activity... I've only just now discovered the news about Simon Andrew at the North West 200, real shock as I'd been watching the Honda Legends documentaries where he features. Bruce Anstey's hot lap yesterday looked sublime and quite hard to watch at times, and Michael Dunlop's BWM seems like a complete animal.

  • Ridiculous speed through shadowy corners, amazeballs.

Back from my 2000 mile lap of France, wet and windy for half of it, things annoyingly cheered up once we'd left the mountains and reached the coast. Found the triumph's triple really came to life this year now I'm used to lugging its heavy arse into corners, get it above 5k revs and it shifts. Still a bit juddery on the front brake even after I cleaned most of the shit off the caliper pistons and checked the disks were true. Maybe new fork oil and a complete caliper seal change will cheer it up?

  • I'm going to have to sell my Iron 883...

    Anyone interested here?

  • bruce ansteys record lap ...... jesus
watched it yesterday, those 1000cc bikes are so quick these days
it's getting towards the group b rally cars madness of the 80's

  • ^^ im trying to sell my yamaha xjr400 too, anyone?
    tough times:(

Wait, what? Didn't realise you had such a machine. Awesome.

  • was watching TT last night - supersport - anyone know what level of tuning those bikes have? and are they still manual gear shift?

See if there are any tyre/fork bottom cams, you see what the road surface is like.

Yes, think that all the bikes have quickshifters tho.

Stick it up on the 400 forum, xjroc and facebook..

  • good shout, cheers mate

  • I'm having trouble with my BMW R80's bing carbs. Is anyone a bing guru and willing to come drink a beer and tickle a carb with me?

  • I raise my hand to your carbs, but slowly... What trouble are you having? In my experience, if there is any doubt about the carbs needing a clean and new gaskets/diaphragm rubbers, they need to be rebuilt. Not a problematic job, it just takes a few hours of getting smelly.

  • craig at scooterworks just cleaned out and replaced the gaskets on mine

  • I've rebuilt them with new gaskets and O-rings. The problem is that the engine dies off idle. It stalls at around 4000rpm. I'm going to tinker with the fuel–air mixture screw tonight and check that the throttle cables are synched. I've found all the relevant online resources but I feel like an experienced hand would do the job quicker and with more confidence.

I just want to get them working to a level that I can at least limp to a garage for a service. I'm determined not to call out a trailer.
