THE first time I've bothered going to work on the scooter, because car being serviced
Well whoop de woo, thanks Mr Plod! And a very lovely day to you both too.......

Harsh, money. Makes my parking ticket for sitting at an empty motorbike bay in Westminster for 15 mins on Saturday feel generous

Looks like I might be moving to London in the next few months after getting a new job...
If this is the case, I'm considering getting rid of the ZXR 400 and getting something (ever so slightly) more practical. I'm thinking either supermoto Husaberg, Husqvarna, KTM or street fighter style like a speed triple or Buell. To be honest I'm pretty clueless, also conscious about moving up the cc ladder too quickly if that's even a real concern. -

Get legal advice, because I suspect this is bullshit.
If you had an insurance policy then you had valid 3rd party cover, regardless of whether you had commuting on your policy. I believe that this has been tested a few times in court. You do not stop being insured 3rd party, just the other risks. -

^ thanks will check it out - their argument was based on me having an accident and my insurance not paying out?
-
• #4042
It wouldn't pay out to you, but it should still pay out to a 3rd party.
-
• #4043
spoke to my insurance company - he was talking in circles - although he admitted that in event of accident they may look to pay out as long as I had retrospectively added commuting to my policy (?) my policy itself would be invalidated at time of accident by not having commuting added
he likened it to pillion - if you carry a pillion passenger and don't have that on your policy, you're not covered to carry a pillion passenger...
sounds a grey area though

also, re: definition of commuting - Travel some distance between one's home and place of work on a regular basis.
is a one off use 'regular'? what about if I was just out for a ride and ended up at work, is this still commuting?

• #4045
boom! BlueQuinn seems you may be right
"Driving outside of the terms of the policy doesn't void the 3rd party bit until such time as they cancel it"

Eightball - sorry to hear that. What a shower of cunts. And they wonder why no one respects them.
-
• #4047
Ooh all this reminds me,.
I need temporary garage space for my Triumph and Vespa.
Can anyone help out? -
• #4048
BlueQuinn, if all goes well - and I realise that this may jinx it - then I will have an undercover car space as of mid September. You'd be welcome to leave it there for a while as I don't have a car or bike - I couldn't guarantee its safety, but it has a locking gate etc and seems safe.

Chap on a vintage motorbike (no wing mirrors) pulled alongside and slightly ahead of me- so his shoulder was next to my bars, then drifted his bike left toward me.
I had to brake hard to avoid being pinched between him and the curb.
I caught up to him and after we discovered that he couldn't hear me over his exhaust I insisted that we continue the discussion on the pavement, in (possibly) a more direct fashion.
He sped off, which was annoying.
In all seriousness- if I wanted (just for the sake of argument) to have a full and frank exchange of views with someone on a motorcycle, and suspect that they will simply bugger off, is it as simple as grab key, turn to left, pull?

If he has his left foot down just push him / her to the right. But yes, twist keys anti clockwise normally. Just turn it off, vintage bikes have kick-starters. I will be a right faff to restart more often than not.
Or just no riding like a twat.
