  • Just got confirmation from seller that the V5 still shows the old engine number.

    Walk away?

PM me the engine number and I'll ask its been nicked. But its simple to change on the V5 but I'd haggle the price down.

  • Pmd

    Thx!

  • Big job (for me) on the 1100G last saturday. I had recuring fork leakage, new seals were not solving the problem, a friend in france refurbished a pair of complete fork legs for me, now installed! Phew! MOT next month, I'm ready!

  • Ola ola ola!!

So that LFGSS trip to France never happened! Sadly.
However if I remember right, last trip to the continent we did last year was in October, so maybe we should not give up?

What about going to Saint Malo as originaly planed? On a 3 day trip, with one day off work attached to a WE, either monday or friday? Suggested dates:

    -12, 13 & 14th October
    -13, 14 & 15th October

    -26, 27 & 28th October
    -27, 28 & 29th October

Should be perfect weather this time of year?

  • Can I come??!

    May I point out that:

6 Oct is BFF film (for which you have a ticket)
20 Oct is King Creosote gig (for which you have a ticket)

    Just sayin'...

BALLS, sorry! I thought King Creosote was in September.
I need to use that thing on my phone that says "calendar"
    Will edit my post now.

    Thanks.

You can come on your 125, I can't see why not!

  • Damn it. I need a motorbike (that's free and runs on fresh air and doesn't require insurance or expensive safety equipment).

  • I am so depressed.
Today I took the day off work because finally, after 3 weeks of not hearing anything BLD returned my Triumph to me with a new oil seal that actually seals oil.

Off the van it goes, check it, everything is fine.
Go to start it. It won't start.
Check it's in neutral, raise the side-stand just in case.
Nothing. Not even the click from a relay.
Remove the key, arm the imobilliser.
    Disarm the immobiliser.
    Disarm the immobiliser.
    Disarm the immobiliser.
No, I fucking said Disarm the immobiliser.
Disarm the immobiliser you fucking cunt!

    That will be why then.
BLD have somehow fucked it up and put it into some mode where the keyfob does not disarm the thing. I am sure that there is some simple procedure that you have to go through to make it all normal again, but I do not know what that is, and neither did they on the phone.

So, back on the van it went, and it's been taken away again.
I could cry. I want to ride my motorbike so much :-(

  • It will be back tomorrow, along with the rain
My exhaust broke, so I ordered a new one from America. It has so far taken 6 weeks and as far as the tracking can tell me it is in New York. The seller got it into the USPS system the day I ordered it, and it has been on tour over USA and Canada ever since by the look of it. I wish I had been attached to it going to the same places.

  • I am so depressed... I want to ride my motorbike so much :-(

Sorry to hear all these frustrating news, however, shouldn't you get your bike back for the suggested ride dates? Any thoughts?

Oh! Just remembered, CoppiThat Adonis, any updated on your passport renewal, do you think you could have it done for october?

Come on guys! I'll do a spoke card!! (for BlueQuinn only though, since the BMW has no more spokes if my infos are up to date?)

Anybody else but the usual suspects interested in this?

    Loic

  • Bike should be back tomorrow. I hope. I am beginning to despair of BLD.
Those dates are fine for me at the moment.

I would suggest 4 days. That race against time to get back to the ferry took a lot of the fun out of day 3. It was also pitch black and scary once back in England. Can we arrange a return journey that gets us back in daylight?

(Or we take the ferry to and from St Malo and go from there).

I'd like at some point to ride round the old GP circuit at Rheims (and buy champagne there!). I know it's nowhere near St Malo so maybe we can change the destination?

Can we record Gerald's snoring this time?

  • @vello it doesnt have spokes but it will have spokes

    i am up for it

@bluequinn virtually all of what you said +1 i say virtually because the bit about snoring is an untruth. adonis don't snore!

sorry to hear about your motorcycle woes niall , hope they pass soon.

there could be additions to the list as there ones that couldnt make it last time because of timing and there have been more bikes into the fold since then.

  • Prep notes:
Adonis: Make sure that this time you a) have a valid passport, b)arrive at the ferry terminal before it sails, and c) have loaded up the appropriate bank account so that your card works in those unmanned French pumps.

Me: Make sure that I a) have a fucking functioning motorcycle, b) turn "avoid highways" off on my Garmin, and c) do not eat any strange French provincial cooking.

  • You can come on your 125, I can't see why not!

If I ever manage to find one!

Will I not get left behind, with all you guys on your big speedy substitute penises?

  • Apart from the mad 100mph rush to get back to Le Havre last time (how the fuck we didn't end up getting stopped I don't know.) we didn't go that fast.
There was a nice little twisty bit where Markyboy raced off on his ducati, and I followed suit some time after, but as we had all agreed to meet up at Mont St Michel a few miles down the road it didn't matter.

Oh, just thought of another thing to definitely not do:
DO NOT ride back on Sunday, and then starve to death because the French refuse to sell food à Dimanche apres-midi.

Tanya, do you have a definite idea of the type of bike you want, and what you want to pay for it? I'm assuming you don't have a licence otherwise you'd buy something bigger.
Some 125s are faster than others.

I really don't want too spend much.
Less than a grand including bike, tax, insurance and anything else required (already have leathers and borrowed helmet).
So I guess up to £800 for bike.
Don't really want to have to do anything much to it so needs to be good working order.

Yeah I'm only able to get a 125 at the moment, which is fine by me. I'd rather start off small and make sure I'm used to it before I move up.

Have been looking at things like:

Honda XR125 - bit ugly (IMO) but good for 'talls'
    Yamaha YBR
    Suzuki GN125 - bit small
    Honda CG125 - small
    Yamaha SR125
    etc.

  • 26 years of riding motorcycles have taught me to use stainless steel wherever possible except when it's mating with aluminium and then use copper-slip. Don't rely on the electrical circuits for any form of security - for that use things like a bricked garage, paranoia, big dogs.

High grade petrol does make a difference but only if your engine needed it in the first place - flat-slide carbs and open air filters will help help your bike make its mind up on this. A high flow fuel tap will seal its decision.

You get less precious the older you get. It's not that you don't care as much it's just that you realise that whatever can be broken can be fixed.

A ride away from London for a couple of night is a great idea, l'm up for that :)

  • Can't do it Loic. Busy back at work, kids back at school - that's why I went for August. Later in the year maybe?

Sorry to hear that... I know you had suggested August, but I had friends and family visiting most WEs, then I went to France too, plus my motorbike had these bloody leaking forks, now repaired...

If the 3 day format is not suitable for you, would a WE format like we did last year be easier?

Another thing easier to organise I was thinking of, is a day trip using Eurotunnel. Leaving on a sunday morning early, we can be in France by 9h30 am, ride around the north coast, have a nice meal in some pre-selected well internet reviewed restaurant, have a nap on the beach and come back at an easy pace in the evening, arriving in London for 9pm...
That's something easy that can be booked only few days before (now we are out of the summer holidays) Eurotunnel prices are quite friendly, if you are a bit flexible...

    What do you guys think?

    L

    OK, list then!

    *RIDE TO FRANCE OCTOBER 2012*

-T4NY4 (on a suitable 125cc maybe or at the back of my 1100G)
    -BlueQuinn (Triumph)
    -CoppiThat (BMW)
    -veLLo (Suzuki)

Please copy and paste the list and indicate your prefered dates.
Markyboy, please comment on my suggestion of a day trip. Actually if we did this, it would be more suitable for T4NY4 if she found 125cc?

    Yo

  • V, a day trip might work but, I've got two weekends of riding in the diary over the next month, which is using up as much good will and favours on the childcare front as i dare ask for right now. I'm pretty much out until later in the year, other than a Sunday after 11am

  • Possibly in on this wild road trip if I can actually find a suitable VFR 400 NC30, or is that just madness? #wristpaintothemax?

  • -T4NY4 (on a suitable 125cc maybe or at the back of my 1100G)
    -BlueQuinn (Triumph)
    -CoppiThat (BMW)
    -veLLo (Suzuki)
-kuba (loud Triumph) 26-28 or 27-29

14th sports BSB final round at Brands Hatch
