Took the Triumph for an MOT yesterday at the local garage I have been using for years.
Good bunch in there, "should" have failed because I removed the rear foot pegs and there is a pillion seat (not that I am insured for passengers), if you have a seat you need pegs (apparently)
They whipped off the seat incase the MOT gods arrived for an inspection and proceeded as if it didn't have a pillion seat. When I arrived and handed me the seat back with "what you do with it now is nothing to do with us"

Had very similar with the various bikes. GN125 had pegs but no grab rail, but they agreed as a L-plater I wouldn’t lawfully carry pillions anyway.
DR350 has mega tiny LED indicators, but as the pillion provisions had been removed they could accept it would not be a problem.
And so on…
It helps to go to the right testers. One of the guys I go to for the dirt bikes, hates loud exhausts. For loud bikes you go to the other guy who I assume is part-deaf and is not aware of dB.

In other news it has been so painfully slow running in the new piston/cylinder kit on the DR. Been so busy the past fortnight that most journeys were by van or CBR.
Decided I should save the dirt tyres any further wear and put the road wheelset back on.
I do love the DR as a sub-60mph road bike. Super fun on smaller roads. I just don’t love keeping it below 6k rpm for hundreds of miles.

haha love it. I had my first bike, super ratty chopped up cg, passed when it was really quite dubious on dB and the amount of homemade metalwork, by giving the guy a load of Tool CDs

Interesting. I wonder if having a rear seat cowl (instead of the seat) means this doesn't apply. Being a loner I've always whipped off my passenger pegs and never had an issue. Good to know.

Talk to me about road wheels for a Dr. I feel I need some to carve canyons here.

Do you need rubber bushings on cassette or not worry.

Nah. Both my sets are non-cush. The shifting is abrupt enough to lift the front wheel at low speed high revs if you aren’t careful, but at speed and when spirited on anything twisty it merely feels ‘responsive’.

Pillion seat removal makes sense ….

Cool I'm going to look for wheels. I can't afford a road bike but want to ride tarmac switchbacks

I've never had any bother with non-cush hubs on the XR650R with road rubber. It was a massive gas on the road with the Trailwings on, almost too hard to unhook the rear. Worked fine for fire roady stuff too.

Not sure if anyone else is planning on going to the Borders Classic Bike Show this weekend, but I've had an e-mail saying it has been postponed.
Web page just says 'Cancelled' with no further details. -

secretly loving the lanes getting muddier.
Meant to say this is no secret. Now is the sweet spot, ground is getting wet but not yet turning to a slop fest. Once we hit January/February all bets are off for staying upright.

On @jambon ’s garage thread @PhilDAS was talking about getting a dirt bike and doing a Place Beyond The Pines.
Last night I stayed late at a pub in a village near Swindon, chatting to the guys there. (I stopped drinking alcohol months ago so only have to contend with tiredness.)
The ride back on the DR was quite amazing. Someone got pissed about the LED headlight and flashed theirs at me, not realising that it was on dim. Otherwise, and more to the point, it felt like said movie @PhilDAS mentioned.
The road winds parallel to the Ridgeway before dropping back down to Swindon, and there was a fine mist. I saw barely two vehicles before hitting suburbanite.
Just headlight beam, cold cold air, the mist and the DR thumping along. Glorious.

This morning's ride to the MX track felt similar, was pretty magical. Although admitadley would have been safer if I hadn't left my tinted visor on. Got to the venue drenched from the mist.

Kinda want a Honda XR650 just for the size of the thing. Unlikely to do much actual strenuous off roading so wouldn't be concerned about my cyclists build and lack of muscles

Follow your heart. I'm currently battling at the back of the novice group on no doubt the heaviest and most unsuitable bike here. Im also 69kg sopping wet. And having a great time.
Last session I did my first jump with a reasonable amount of throttle, who knew gas-gryo was a thing? Will be dialling the noise tube back slightly in future.

69kg? Lucky bastard. I lost all my stress-weight from the last five years and I’m still fighting over 71kg!
But yea, a 650 would be amazing for more road, less dirt.
I am nearly done running in the DR’s cylinder, and after all the road miles I renewed my desire for a 650.

Ah yea, your rotation will be affected significantly
Okay great thanks I'll try that with the liquid moly.
It's not bad at all, just can feel not perfect.
