Probably carrying just as much corner speed as 'Johnny Kneedown' - Mike The Bike.

I doubt, not with those tyres, but he was a very elegant rider
and that MV is a fncking gorgeous bike -

^ it would be interesting to find out, I doubt the difference would be that great to be honest. Firing out of corners in terms of acceleration and outright top speed on straights yes absolutely there's a world of difference between bikes of yesteryear and today but actual corner speed I'm not so sure. The pegs are almost down and the side of his boot looks like it's touching the track. If he had his knee sticking out like a performing monkey then it would invariably also be touching the track - but he doesn't.

If you look more carefully, he has the entire body out from the bike, including his arse; that is not for performing, it allow the bike to stay more straight, changing the center gravity point; and this tells a lot... in terms of difference in cornering between new and old.
The cornering doesn't necessarily make the fastest time though.
The bikes of today are faster in every of the three parts of the curve, entrance, corner speed and exit. And I deduct also more safe.BTW, I apologize if this is not explained as I wish, but I'm not English and motorbikes, engines, races have they own dictionary which is not in my acquaintance.

^ There's a bit of leg pulling going on but I do think that too many of today's riders (those who ride on the road, we may fantasise about doing 180 at Silverstone but the reality is usually getting to Tesco for 18.00 before it closes) obsess about getting their knee down when to ride a bike fast through corners it's really not necessary.
Another point you make about time through the corner is important. Hailwood's riding style and that of his peers was very smooth, it had great consistency, mainly because they weren't moving about on the bike as much as today's riders do. And smoothness is key to cornering quickly. More so than whether or not you can scuff a slider.

The picture that I posted is about professional track. 0n the road of course it's not necessary.
True about the smoothness, but I know about Freddie Spencer.
Another very important point is the braking before the curve, I would say probably the most crucial on track, in Italian is called "staccata".
Still speaking about track, the knee out also helps for the stability while cornering, mixed with an aerodynamic factor, but this is quite subjective even for the riders of today.

Like I said more leg pulling than anything. Here's a link to some interesting observations about different riding styles:

Interesting reading, make me wonder what those 20 riders read to became pro.

You should be acustomed to see that kind of thing on this forum. This is cooler than the average beer can, brick or whatever people support their fixies on though.
Bike is cooler, it was the side stand I meant.

Oh my. There are some amazing concept bikes on this design blog

Having had guzzis and a beemer neither of which are known for the good side stand design skills, I can just seen that bike rotating forward or backwards and ending up on the floor. It looks like it just sleeves over the foot rest, yes?

Agreed.
My guess is that it's only there for the photo. -

Beautiful as fuck.

I've seen that catalunya video many times - I still get sweaty palms and jangling nerves watching it.
Heres hoping that the new GP12 will be as good as the M1 and the RC213V and we can see a bit more of that....
Probably been posted before, but....

Awesome.
Why isn't Rossi this good anymore? Is it the bike he is on? He had a few crashes/injuries on moto x bikes and the like too didn't he?
-

The Ducati he's on just hasn't been a match or consistant over the last year.
^ Looking like ein uber-charger, yeh! Crazy fun time!
