Which 600?
What about a nice JDM bike. Think David Silver are importing bikes. They have a 250cc katana with a 12k red line on a in line 4.

Is it the Parallel twin 500cc engine?

I had a tuned VTR - loved it. Moriwaki cams and ti system, Maxton forks, Spondon rear end with a Fox shock, it was stupidly fast and agile. But Jesus, if you caned it you got less than 100 miles to a tank. Was huge fun tho.

Just to strengthen the SRAD argument, from this month's Practical Sportsbikes comparing the Suzuki with the ZX7R and YZF750R. Couldn't have put it better myself.

Super sweet! My TL1000s was the same - I got sub 80 miles out of a tank once.
-

The standard vtr didn't do much more than 100 to a tank.

Not within budget, but came up on my feed in a group.

Have you considered a ZZR600?
-
• #18810
Yes. That’s kinda top of the list if I can find an unmolested one

If you definitely want a 600, may as well buy a CBR600F. Best all rounder by some way, they made scads of them so bits shouldn’t be an issue. Can be set up to handle extremely well.

My FiL had one for a spell, would have been mine but I didn't get around to doing my test for another 4 years.
Long gone by then. -

It will be a ZZR600 or CBR600, whichever comes up at the right moment, I think.
As much as some of the 750’s and 900’s really tickle the pickle, they are going to cost more (both in fuel and flesh).

I'd go for ZZR as they come up cheaper than the CBR and look for a recent rear shock replacement or budget for a hagon one.
-
• #18816
Oh yeah maybe. Still if it goes to 15000 rpm who cares!
-
• #18817
Yea I’d prefer to have a cheaper bike that gets tricked out a little, than a more expensive one that I can’t afford to upgrade/mod to taste.
As we may be aware, I can’t have nice things.

Think the Ninja 500 was the GPZ500 in the UK. Nice bikes. Liked the fairing, you could get an infill to make the bike fully faired.

CBR6 seems to hold their price, while zzr, less so. Have you looked at the zx6r?mid 00s had radial brakes and decent front suspension.

All this talk of sports bikes, the poor Sherco has been languishing. My knees are starting to feel better after returning from the Camino 4 weeks ago, so it was time to have a quick quick play.
Carb and spark plug removed and cleaned yesterday. Trick float bowl nut fitted.
Ditch by the house is super flooded. Quite exciting to splash about as my first return to the bike in over 2 months, nearly 3 I think.
Only 15-20 mins play to get the muscles to wake up.
Slippery as hell. 3.5psi was too much pressure to grip and wheelie.

WAs going to ask if you'd sold it as no news.
What's Camino? Unless you walked Santiago.

Santiago
That's what I assumed.
Must have been pretty rough this time of year.

@skinny @hugo7 yea Camino Portugues from Porto to Santiago de Compostela in 12 days. 2 days in Porto before, and a few days in Santiago after. Friend suggested it as a way to drink from sunrise til lunchtime, as we are not religious.
It was an amazing experience but I had not anticipated the toll on my knees from walking downhill for 20km in one day.
Edit: actually it was really mild. T-shirt weather through Portugal, and hoody weather in Spain. We got rained on only from Padron onwards, so only the last couple days and during the stay in Santiago.
It was also a privilege to have near-empty Albergues and no fighting for space.

I went from SW France by bike. The bit after the Pyrenees until you hit Galicia was a bit dull. Can imagine from Porto would give better bang for your buck.
Great thing about a bike is if the Albergues were full riding 5km to a hotel is no bother.
It's a beautiful part of the world and I'd definitely like to do part of it again with someone. Maybe my kids when they're bigger.

Yea. It was an interesting walk (we walked), but I can appreciate the convenience of cycling to the next place. One guy had such bad foot pain he would choose the first albergue no matter what.
100-140 on a faired 600 comes very quickly as you hit the top rev range!
How about a ninja 500 or something similar? You can rev the nuts off it without getting too far into triple digits but it still happens quite quickly.
