Afaik Lithiums need a different max charge voltage. You can damage them/circuitry running a Pb regrec. I got schooled on it by the mechanics, and they got sick of removing busted lithiums from bikes that now they refuse to consider them. When they work, great, but you need to do some work.

It's pretty simple to fit an adjustable reg/rec to my bike. One of the leading experts on R80's is called Snowbum, he goes into the tiny details in a pretty mad way. Ultimately he doesn't have too much against Lithium but doesn't recommend it for normal use. My problem is diagnosing the problem, I could buy a normal battery and see if the problem goes away but I'd rather fix the problem and keep the lithium if possible. The weight benefits are great.

Horrible noise pollution. A plague for the thousands of people in their homes who had to listen to it. It's the main cause of new anti-motorcycle legislation in Europe. Wtf is wrong with you?

I know, so selfish of young me. What a shame nothing's changed.

I’ve had a Shorai lithium in the GSXR for 5+ years. Works great, no mods. Don’t buy a cheap no-name one and you should be fine. They’re higher voltage than lead acid or gel batteries so if your charging system is marginal, they might not recharge well. Can’t see that being a problem on a DRZ!

Strange you had the battery go flat.
If the bike is not being used and the battery has been cold for a while then I think its fairly normal.
Batteries also vary.

There was a fortnine vid on YouTube a few years ago comparing batteries and I recall lithium being good at starting the bike after months of sitting around doing nothing but gel and acid winning in other areas. Also some manufacturers con about rated capacity being the lead acid equivalent rather than real size.

Welcome to the minefield

Did you solder the connections ;)
At a guess you have the three phase, not the single phase and some move the reg/rec in to the airflow to help it survive for longer. -

Not been around bikes and cars for long then.

What a strange and angry post.

Are you new here ;)

For sure, I spend most of my other time redlining my 2 strokes in front of peoples houses.

Ah the smell of two stroke in the morning, it reminds me of victory.

Glorious odour

MZ was being cleaned out yesterday at the mechanics. Dat smell, yo.

Nah - still the old two wire. Reg / rec has been upgraded though. It was putting out over 13 at idle and mid 14 seemed about peak. Should work fine.

Has anyone here used Mungo's Motorcycle school in Peckham?
Post-CBT, are 3 days enough if I can already ride a geared motorcycle to pass? Rode a royal enfield in india for 5 years, plenty of 2 stroke nonsense before that and a bandit 600 here when I had the international permit here for a year.

Probably... If you can do all the Module-1 stuff with ease then your Module-2 will be a piece of piss.
Go do a U-turn within 1 1/2 parking spaces, do a slalom of 8 cones with two figure-8's at the end. Get to 30mph and stop like a puppy jumped in front of you. Then go ride in traffic like you don't jump reds. If you can manage that last one you'll pass.

Nope, but those prices are about right. CBT prices can fucking do one though. £150 is mental.
Regarding how many days, depends. It’s got nothing to do whether you ‘can ride’ or not. Most already have experience before they DAS, it’s confidence/etiquette/rules/awareness that’s being observed.
I failed first time, instructor was vicious. I even got marked cos my shoulder checks didn’t last long enough. Depends on the school/test centre.
Come back to the dark side amey, it’s cosy in here.

Mod-1 was a breeze. Mod-2 was a bastard.
I fitted Lithium a few years ago and it's worked very well but recently I've had a problem after longish fast runs where the alternator stops charging the battery, then with normal traffic speeds it starts charging again. Possibly reg/rec overheating because the Lithium works differently, maybe just old bike and the alternator needs servicing.
I used to think Lithium was pretty straight forward but it does seem to have some hidden complications.
