  • Is there any logic why quickshifters are marketed as performance upgrades, when if you want a sporty or 'pure' driving experience you'd buy a manual car?

  • Faster gear changes are always a performance upgrade. Porsche PDK gearbox?

    When you're at the level of chasing marginal gains against your mates in the pub every 1/100 of a second counts.

  • In that case think I prefer the cliché pure experience over performance. Having said that never ridden a quickshifter and wouldn't say no to a cheeky go on one.

  • Quickshifters are still manual, they just cut the ignition for a fraction of a second so you don't have to cut the throttle when you shift. They're really only handy for track and very spirited riding.

    The really fancy new ones, have an auto blipper, which squirts some gas in to unload the transmission so you can go clutchless down the box as well as up. I've never tried one of those but they sound fun!

  • Apparently the auto blipper and pit lane limiter combine to produce extraordinary backfiring.

  • Dredging a bit here but motorcycle maintenance is not quite as bad for the seized bolt issues. Definitely an issue with older cars but I've not come across one that slows things down too badly on a bike.

    Stripped aluminium threads and bodged fairing bolts are definitely a things though. It is difficult to estimate the length of time it takes to do a job if you've never done it before though.

  • My Tracer 900 has a quick shifter and the MT09 before it.

    Absolutely love it and wouldn’t want to go back to a bike without one.

    Still use the clutch for slow riding around town but the ability to keep the throttle pinned when accelerating is so much fun.

    Still definitely feels ‘manual’

  • Interesting, maybe I should have a go on one before crossing it off my list. Famous last words but feel like I'm getting to the end of the mod list, apart from boring starter upgrades next year and maybe a Sigma slipper clutch in the near future.

  • Slipper clutch and quick shifter are the two things I love most about my bike in terms of the driving experience.

  • Slipper clutches on big twins are highly recommended. I lost count the number of times I was on the lockstops sideways on my TL1000S after being too keen on downshifting / corner entry. Spectacular but pant staining. Hard on the brakes through the left kink into a fast roundabout was invariably where it would let loose. Doubly bad as you had to gather it all up then flick it right in a hurry!

  • @Jung My thinking exactly with the amount of torque. I've had a slipper clutch kick in a few times on my old ZX-6RR (on track) and that was scary, but the rear wiggling on the RSV is even scarier!

  • Yeah deffo- you have to be going for it a bit but any hard braking / lean / downshift combo will be enough to get things wagging. I don't ride that fast anymore so not an issue for me these days! :)

  • Definitely squeeky bum moment, on the plus side though blipping on downshifts has improved.

  • Quickshifters and blippers are awesome. End of. This is the same argument that people had regarding certain daily use tech. Eventually it becomes the norm; it's also a natural progression as far as I'm concerned. Almost like hydraulics on Bicycles.

    I understand the argument for 'purity' and all that marlarky, and as a bit of a luddite, I don't care much for the whole spectrum of electronics in modern bikes, but those two, especially quick shifters, really are pretty awesome and make riding that bit better.
    Next bike will have a quick shifter for sure as it really enjoyed using it.

    Also, your bike is distressingly clean. I hate you.

  • Okay I'm starting to come round to quickshifters, really though think I just need to try one on a fast bike. That's fine, it's a garage-queen for sure and I'm very lucky.

    Dear Mr Honda San.
    Stop faffing and sort this out. You teased with the CT110 cross cub and then only released in asian markets. Granted the CT125 Cross Cub / Trail Hunter (for maybe us and the Yanks) is a peach, but stop screwing about and make it happen or i am going to get a 2 stroke vespa with fuck off knobbly tyres and waft about in a blue haze instead.

  • That Honda ct is nice, modern day ausie post bike, wonder if it will have the hi lo gear box like the original

  • The CT photo's doing the rounds may have had an old photo slipped in, some say it has hi-lo box as per a set of photos and others say no.
    Made enquireys about the CT110 when that came out but it wasn't destined for Euro Zone on emissions reasons and requirements of FI and ABS, which appear to have been addressed.

    Going by Super Cub pricing i doubt the CT125 will be cheap like a PCX :( (which is what i keep looking at)
