  • because it'll look stupid on my 250cc grasstracker

Any normal solid colour helmet will look fine. Stop worrying.

Honestly, if you can't afford multiple helmets, just buy one good normal one with the appropriate features for your riding.

Here is a normal black Arai fitting in perfectly with a vintage leather jacket and Cally highway scene:

...and here's someone teaming a white one alongside work boots with red laces:

  • Any normal solid colour helmet will look fine. Stop worrying.

I was tempted to say this, as long as it's not too angular/aggressive I think it will work. Even having a solid retro colour could help (Joey Dunlop yellow)? When I see neo-retro bikes with a painfully try-hard helmet, with matching yellow bubble visor it makes me cringe a little. Bear in mind this is coming from a rider who waxes lyrically about having an Italian bike because it has ‘soul’ and ‘character’.

  • Extremely fair comments! I think the more I delve into this the more I realise helmets are worse than bikes for n+1. There really is no one helmet that ticks every box.

I think I might just get that Bell MX-9 Adventure MIPS, it's about €200, I get on well with my Bell Full 9 for mountain biking so the fit should be good and Bell quality is excellent I've always found, plus the visor can come off if wind is an issue and it looks more or less like a street helmet then.

  • Have to say, the peak will be an enormous pain in the arse at anything over 50. For street riding, you'll want to get rid of it.

  • @Jung @Airhead clutch cable didn’t seem too bound up but I pulled it out from behind the headlamp etc and just have it running in a nice big curve and I think it’s better. Was just on suburban streets on the way to work so not much opportunity for hard acceleration but did seem to have improved.

    Cheers.

  • +1

Obviously it is great you now get safe, practical and good looking accessories like gloves and jackets but a lot of the other stuff is strictly insta and makes you look like a tool irl.

(I ride a retro twin and wear a retro waxed jacket in the winter)

  • It is terribly easy to get sucked into the IG-biker aesthetic (thanks a bunch Deus/ Bike Shed etc.)

Makes a nice change though to see a bunch of people having fun and looking cool though compared to the usual sullen accountants on BMWs and boorish louts on supersport bikes that seem to be de rigueur in Ireland...

Might be time to start a "Rapha thread of motorcyclists thread" ;)

@Jung I don't doubt you're right, I like the look of it with or without the peak though and I also quite like that Bell do a photochromic lens for it!

  • Everyone is saying all the right stuff........but just get a Hedon anyway

  • Just been told about the new noise cameras that are being trialled in the UK. Seems that 74db is the EU limit for cars and 90db is generally seen as a nuisance. They will be targeting cars with loud aftermarket exhausts and of course bikes. I was told that they are likely to be at traffic lights but not found any information to back that up.

Seems like a good first priority for our newly appointed 'World King' #BregsitMeansBregsit #GammonEtc

  • 9k for just a daytona! If it was an RS I can see that...

Those engine do lunch them selves as some dodgy oil filters meant the filter unscrewed and all the engine oil escaped and then the engine both cooks and runs out of oil. But then you can spend shit loads on rebuilding the engine to have the filter spin off again ;)

  • Is the enforcement to do with the EU?

  • When we leave it will all be better

  • Straight pipes for all, the colonies will pay for them.

  • We’ll pay for them with the £350mil that we will save each week

    I’m not racist, but....

    Etc

  • Groan. Be interested to know how they're supposed to work in a congested area. How would they differentiate the source?

  • Any name suggestions for a non serious motorbike YouTube channel?

A friend who I've been pestering to do Direct Access for over a decade passed his test this week and might post some low-budget videos. All I've got so far is 'Hero Blobs'.

  • Chicken strips?

  • counter steer, count steer, wait the pegs, weight the pegs,

  • Thanks guys, @n3il had that on my list too.

  • Just back from 4 day and 900 miles of Highlands and North Coast fun. And all the way through day 1 I had fairly bad clutch slip, was nearly about to sack it off home before we got too remote, but you know what if fixed itself. Id just done an oil change the day before with same oil i always use (same can!). But bike has been standing a few months so figured the clutch steel plates maybe had some kind of sludge on them?
Extreme rain and cold on day 1 neaely sent everyone home (again had it on every trip done with this particular group and never had much luck with weather). But day 2 to 4 opposite problem, too hot for our winter gear only approach.
Most of the roads were good, but some were epic no matter which bike your on. Funduro loved the gravel struan slower stuff, sv/vstrom liked it a bit faster and smoother, sprint was a weapon on anything even vaguely more open, and the tiger liked everything.
Need a triple or a v4 in my life though
Also punctures suck, especially when your inner tube fully explodes and you didnt take a spare and the nearest one that might fit is a a half days ride away.
But mostly learned the a9 is extremely boring to the point of danger, there's some excellent single tracks off the side of it though

Oaf yeah bugger that! I've taken the motorbike to work the last two days because I couldn't face pedalling in the heat and I'm afraid to say I have been 100% squidding it. I avoided the motorway so 30-35mph was the fastest I got up to and I do that kinda speed in lycra so...

  • Good work fella. That's a proper outing.
