Triple engines don’t do it for me, the sound

U fockn' wot m8?!?! That's near enough top reason most people get them. I was smitten the moment I followed someone down the A708 towards Moffat. It was a symphony of noise reverberating off of every surface.

How about an RC51? Honda. V-twin. Many CC's.

Maybe I haven't heard a good one, they just sound like a wet fart.

I'll find one with nice exhausts and take it for a ride. Perhaps I'm wrong. If so I'd then get a daytona or street.

They really sing with the right exhaust. On full chat, that intake noise is infectious.
Daytona isn't without it's problems though. It was full cardio to ride, long and low. Gearing is also looooooong. 1st will get you closer to 85mph.

The Street was hands down the most fun I've had on a bike so far. It just eggs you on. I can't wheelie for shit, but drop that clutch in second will nip that front up with a laugh.

Why not your 990 again with some suspension upgrades?

Smt went where you wanted it, but was always a bit lofty. I knew it'd go round the corner if I stuck it in, but it never felt smooth.

Will take a daytona and street for a test ride some time soon for sure then. Plus 848 evo and 750 gsxr.

If newer is on the agenda, the 790 KTM looks a proper giggle. I luuurve the sound of triples...I'd totally have a stripped down Daytona as a second bike for the occasional thrash if I had a bigger wallet / garage.

RC51 is a decent shout - they're beautifully put together and are at the point you can't lose money on them short of putting it in a ditch.

Don't know about UK prices but late model Aprilia RSV and Tuono twins are amazingly good and silly value here. They are absolutely beautiful bikes to ride - my friend's 09 Tuono is the most pleasing all around, loony tool I've ridden in ages. The frame is a thing of real beauty and the rotax engine is an absolute peach. He paid $4k!

yeah miss my Street for that - although the Speed Triple can be just as brutal - torque for days

Seen a few of them out here, sound and look sweet, if tiny! But out of my budget for sure.

Rc51 sp1 and for sure sp2 are beautiful but go for strong money these days. A ‘classic’ and priced so.

Definitely have a go on the RSV / Tuono - they are way more complete and sophisticated than I imagined. Really lovely bikes.

while having my cbr600 serviced at dobles they gave me the keys to an sp1 for a morning, their demo bike, round the backs lanes nr gatwick it gave me a few frights as it pulled from real low revs you don't realise quite how rapidly it gets going
fun bike but a 4 cyl. gives that extra top end rush which is more addictive

I test rode the fully tarted up versions of the Speed Triple and Daytona 675R a while back. Speed sounded amazing, but was just a complete monster. Uncomfortable and torquey. The 675R managed to be not only faster, better handling and better sounding (obvs - that induction whine omfg) than my TT600, but also more comfortable, better at slow speeds, and got better fuel economy. Ridiculously good bike.

Rode an 848 Evo as well. Fuck me did it sound good when you really let it go, it's pretty incredible for a "small" bike. It was also cramped, absurdly fast and quite terrifying. I don't know how anyone could ride a one of the 1200s

I had a can of something nice and waxy last time but stupidly binned the empty can and now I've forgotten what it was.

PJ1 for me but everyone will have their own fave. Renthal non-aerosol is also decent if you want a smaller bottle.
