  • Definitely an adventure bike of some description.

    BMW GS
    Triumph Tiger
    Ducati Multistrada
    Moto Guzzi Stelvio
    Honda Africa Twin
    Yamaha Super Ténéré

There's loads more too to choose from but maybe have a look at those options as a start point?

  • +1 on the F800GS, mate of mine does Brum and back several times a week on one. I wouldn't say happily, but he doesn't hate doing it.

  • You're getting too comfy in the Aston :)

  • Come on then fellas. Weekend ride?

  • True dat. Handsome as it is...the Aston doesn't wheelie.

Splendid on the motorway though, I suspect. :)

  • Just the ticket. I might put patella to tarmac in the canyons at some point. I haven't checked I still fit in my leathers yet this year, I feel it could be a bit squeaky.

  • I am. I haven't ridden the Triumph since I MoTed it last July. It's up for sale and I probably won't replace it.

  • Time for a Goldwing?

  • Ha, never. Going completely the other way. My only bike will be my old Primavera.

  • Better than me, I’m still riding in jeans after being sent the wrong size leathers and not getting round to reordering

  • Sold my SH300 and I'm back to the R80 full time. It feels good.

  • Thanks guys. An adventure bike seems like a good choice. My insurance would double but cheaper running costs vs a car.

Liking the Triumph at the moment.

Will have to mull it over.

  • New yamaha tracer 900gt is getting great reviews and yamaha are keen to sell so doing very strong pcp deals...

  • Had a similar issue and opted for the triumph tiger 800. Got an 11 plate cheap off the bay and it came with full luggage as triumph had offers on. Fully recommend. I had an issue with am iffy battery so required a breakdown van and the guy told me he was always picking up the new BMW GS bikes due to electrical issues.

On another note does anyone have a suggestions for driver to pillion comms system as planning a drive to the girlfs parents in the summer. Apparently she might want to talk to me on the drive....

  • The newer ones do look very 'Mad Max' don't they?

  • Tell her no such thing exists. Sod that.

  • Or sena are meant to be good.

I just get hand signals and a thump from the pillion police.

  • Swapped my levers yesterday. Feels way more solid, less spongey now

  • I do like my Triumph - so much so that if I change this year will be to get a newer one.
Have always liked the 99 Blades though - great colour scheme.
Yam make fantastic machines these days - so many great options.

  • Always think levers on mc are cheap feeling. China eBay£15 jobs seem to show up most stock levers.
Got a brand new BMW lever and bush as fed up with the floppy existing work ones.
£42 for the part, and lasted about two weeks until as floppy as the old one.

  • Yep these were about 15 quid on eBay. Surprised by the quality. Really clean CNCed. Can’t quite believe anyone can produce these, send them half way round the world, charge £15 and still make profit

  • They're not exactly made of the best metal, but means they break off before getting stuck in your ribs if you have an off. Put en on most bikes I use. If nothing else preserves the originals for when sell iy on

  • Did some of tge trans Europe trail today, all 30 miles lol. Mostly back lanes with the odd very rough gulley / ravine that would keep a trail bike rider busy. One was too severe on the descent so had to turn back.
Then right at the end before getting back onto tarmac flicked up a rotten log (so rotten it turned to dust) that poked hepco and becker pannier so perfectly in the wrong spot it snapped the mounting hinge lock thing, tweaked the tab on the steel frame in such a way I'm gonna have to proper fix it and left a proper good dent in the front. Pannier had only maybe 5kg inside it Inc a £££ laptop which survived thankfully, thing span off into the undergrowth surprisingly deep.

45 min of zip tie surgery later was on way again.
Can see why hardly anyone uses hepco becker boxes anymore, weak as fuck mounting method.

Trans Europe though, least round Cumbria ain't no doozy!
