  • Yeah I’d have thought if someone’s got the balls to grind through a couple of locks to get your bike, they’re not too worried about a bit of noise

  • i had a datatool system 4 alarm which was great for a few years, kept people away from my bike and i only had a few issues with it draining the battery while i was on holiday. my insurance was super cheap too. my previous bike - sometimes i would come out of work on a break to check it was ok, and some chump would be sitting on it having a fag or on his phone, like it was a bench!
eventually though, it still got robbed outside my house in the night and i woke to hear the alarm getting quiter as it dissapeared up the road, being pushed/ghosted by a few local punks. wouldn't get another.
also - i couldn't use a cover without the nudge alarm going off with any gust of wind.

  • Alpha dot. Anyone use?

  • Reality...no. May get an insurance discount. How many forces have a reader and use it?

  • Already done my insurance now anyway. It didn’t lower it so I didn’t bother. But just thought for 20 quid it might mean the bike gets back home if it’s ever nicked. Didn’t think about police not having the readers

  • That's decent shiz that. Will it change geometry a bit? The SV is on 60k now and feels better damped than the old one.
Saying that though, after the miles I've put on it, I've started learning what I want out of it. Right now Ideally, rear slightly higher and front slightly lower. When exiting corners, the front feels a little loose winding the throttle on, so might drop it a couple of mm. Not ideal I know; I'd love to do a whole GSXR front end conversion and start track days on it.

  • Would love to see that!

  • Shouldn't do as the eye to eye length is the same. I need to make a best guess on new spring rates front and rear too. I've got no sag at all at the front with all the fairing and shit ripped off, turn in is pretty vague if you're not on the brakes. I wouldn't mind raising the back end a bit too.

    Just get a GSXR :)

  • Sorry my wrong, how many forces have 'a' working reader and will actually use it.

How many people do you know got panels or parts back?

  • At least get the sag set....

The rebuilding shock issue isn't the nitrogen. Install a schrader valve and refill when you want ;)

  • Dollar dollar bill y'all!

With experience I will. I had the joy of riding a k9 750 for a week and it was flies in your eyes all kinds of 'shiiiiiiieeeeeet' awesome, but I know I'll get into trouble with it.
I'm keeping the SV as 1. It's not worth the sum of it's parts 2. I can now see why minitwin racing is still alive. Few choice mods and these bikes can push hard without spitting you out.

  • Anyone heading down to Hastings on the mayday run?

  • That's one of the current problems - preload all the way out, zero sag. I need lighter springs at the front for sure.

New rear shock has a a schrader which is v.handy.

Chak - with you on the bike. Honestly for twisty canyon roads, I'd have more fun on something lighter. I just can't be arsed with swapping bikes again and I like the old mutt I have.

  • No. Done it once never again.

Too many idiots on bikes...too many idiots in cars...too many idiots concentrated in one place.

  • Supermoto.

  • First brief ride out on the GSR tonight. Gets lively over 8k revs. Can’t wait to get out on some longer trips now

  • with you on the bike. Honestly for twisty canyon roads, I'd have more fun on something lighter. I just can't be arsed with swapping bikes again and I like the old mutt I have.

That's the idea I'm going for as well. Bike has 60k on it now, it's not gonna sell for much, so might as well keep taking care of it but ragging it at the same time. Just put new rubber, clip ons, braided hoses, rebuilt calipers and an R6 throttle tube on it. Roundabouts are a fucking hoot now. All around £200.

  • Well, last week I finally got round to stripping the rear caliper off my bike and cleaning the pins it floats on, greasing them up and stuff and it seemed to make bugger all difference to the binding...but the 200 mile round trip to Kinlochleven to watch the pre65 trial today seems to have eased it off, yay.

It also made me realise how buggerfucked my chain and sprockets are. Still, should feel like a few extra bhp when I do eventually get round to replacing them.

That'll be a month or two, right now I need some chain lube, what's the forum recommendation?

  • Ha I always used to love getting off the euro tunnel in France and finding the first LH roundabout.

Went out dirtbiking today up in San Fransisquito canyon. Mostly Rocky, hard packed fire roads twisting around the mountains. Hot as fuck. 94f. Fun but after a couple of hours you're cooked...

  • I've recently started using Yamalube Dirt Bike lube (made by Yamaha) definitely the best I've ever used.

  • Fair enough, I might walk down to check it out (and not in leathers with helmet as someone at work suggested!)

  • Checked the pin that goes in to the master cylinder?

What lube did you use on the pins?

  • You need to take the pistons out and change seals. There will be dirt in the, which is causing it to still. Not too bad a job on rear.

  • You work with utter twonks. Have seen people turn up at rykas in box hill in cars and then get out put on a helmet and jacket on to mingle with the bikers. Why?

Why would you carry around a helmet when you don't have to? Especially as it can get knocked marked or dirty. I am OCD ish about my helmet. I don't put the helmet on the floor or hang of off a handlebar, or stick my dirty gloves inside.

Then the queue at hasting are long and people are annoying.

  • They were joking... Apparently they’ve seen people at races get off the bus with jacket and helmet to carry round and mingle.

I had my helmet upside down for a few days at work and the inside of the visor got a horrible coating of dust that I only noticed once I rode towards the setting sun. Lesson learned!
