  • I have B1, B, F, K and P with 122 restriction and provisional cat A, BE, G, H. might be a bit odd combination due to my license being Greek, lost it, and got a replacement from DVLA.

  • Depends when you got it. It's not so simple now, but follows general European standards or something. I think irrespective of what license you have, you'll still need a CBT.

In other news. Street triple for £2.7k with 35k on the clock in good clean nick. yay or nay?

  • Nah - that's a lot on one of those.

  • can I on a B1 licence?

I think they have their own special test.

It is essentially just to double check you're an absolute cunt.

Prior proof of BMW or RR Sport ownership will also do apparently.

  • On a more helpful note, they're meant to have very high servicing costs. Worth looking into before you buy. And worth factoring in any potential work on 2nd hand ones.

  • 35k on the clock

    Age and how many owners?

That's quite high milage for what is essentially a sports bike.

  • @hugo7 What? On what, consumables or engine?
I've seen a whole bunch clock double that and a few on a 100k.
It's had regular servicing (stamped book) with reg/rec/stator change and bolts on casing checked for torque.

    4 owners

What makes 35k bad on this in comparison to say...an old gsxr?

  • Consumables and maintenance.

No different to a gixxer imo. I'm sure there's no reason why either shouldn't do 100k if maintained and cared for.

Higher mileage and more owners just mean increased odds of it not being properly looked after imo. So you need to take that into account.

Tyres aren't too pricey but if it's been thrashed for 30k then you've just got to think about disc replacement, forks and bearing services, etc. In my head they're the type of bike that a lot of people will put a few '000 miles on pa in the summer.

But then if the owners have been good and all maintenance carried out. Have a look in person.

Another thing worth noting is how the milage has been built up. I think this is available online via the MOT

  • If it were a speed, rather than a street it wouldn't bother me at all. The smaller engines just see a lot more abuse. I've seen beaucoup old Blades and GSXR Thous running around with 50k plus as they spend most of their lives under 7k or so.

Plus you'll be needing a new rear shock and major fork overhaul if you want it handling like new.

  • This. As a triple with (comparatively) much longer stroke than a 600cc four cylinder motor the piston speeds are much higher, with that speed comes the issue of having to stop and accelerate the piston much more violently at the top and bottom of every stroke. The stresses involved are much greater. Not an issue if looked and mileage isn't necessarily the issue but I'd be wary of any that have been thrashed or neglected.

  • @Jung @cagimaha I thought as much, and quite aware of the reputation that this bike has, hence why I didn't jump into it with open arms straight away.
As they say, there's no replacement for displacement, and understand the mechanics of a larger piston slapping around hence why I've kinda come to a bit of an impasse.

Hence looking for a striple that's been stuck in London most of it's life (can't really go far) by someone who has no hesitation flaunting the service book in my face with regular intervals.
Seems to be a good balance of fun/affordable to run.....I hope.

The absolute main issue is @hugo7 budget, and as much as I'd love to add an extra grand to the mix for a low mile'r, I fix bikes for a living...so that ability is somewhat restricted if I want to eat for the next month.
Reckon I might go see this and start with the paperwork before even turning the key in the bike.

  • Bearings disintegrated when removing rear wheel to fit tyre, CB is killing me at the moment.

  • RR Sport ownership will also do apparently.

you say this, but for a tall lad there's no more comfortable car I've ever sat in, except the Vogue.

  • Clearly never driven a 7 series

  • I'm not Bezos' chauffer

  • The Big Red Baja Pig is proving a pest. Bloody wiring. It has a rewound High Output stator with an aftermarket Reg/Rec and mini battery pack. Rather than being the traditional 125w AC and 125w DC through the rec, it seems to be 2 x 100w DC via the Rec, with the AC wiring for the factory rear light removed altogether. Need to hook up the front and rear lights to put some load on so have to make a mini-loom with a 3 position toggle switch. Can't really ride it until that's done. Boo.

To further complicate matters, Trailtech have just announced a super powerful 7" LED Racelight which I'd love to fit. Problem is, I suspect it won't draw enough current to stop the battery getting fried. I can stick with a 100w 8" Halogen Racelight, but that has over 8amps going through the wiring at the front. Will have to look at the gauge and see if it's manly enough, it's only a very short run at least.

On the plus side, my mate is giving me a new set of tyres free.

  • Could you not fit a big resistor in the LED circuit. Seems a shame to waste the energy but my drunk brain figures it would work.

  • I think 38k is high for a bike but if you fix them for a living what's the worry, you just pay in installments, might suit you.

  • Didn't know there was a Vogue version of the Range Rover Sport. Tbh I've only driven an the first version once in Romania, so can't really comment. Although I did like it.

Besides I'm just reporting what I see.

Ironically there was one of those 3 wheelers behind me on my way home who was perfectly normal. Thing is I'm genuinely not exagerating when I say that is literally the first one I've ever seen not being driven by a total bellend.

  • £2200 for a 16k 2007 version....except in Zurich...

  • I could fit a sound system and some neons....

Dunno now. The LED might end up being a hundy more than the 8in halogen anyway which aside from being a bit heavier does the same job. I'm going to ask if they have any schematics yet.

None of these are street legal which doesn't bother me but I will need to fix a secondary spot for round town to avoid blinding people.

  • sigh. looks like i left my running lights on on the beemer last time I used it.

That's now 2 bikes in the garage with flat batteries that I have to strip all the fairing off to get the battery out to charge.

(garage has no power source and not close to the house otherwise I would hook up the charger straight to the bike.)

once I have them both running, I might get rid of both and buy something a little more fun now that I am not commuting daily.

  • Even so its probably worth hooking up an optimate charging tail thingy.

That way you can always wheel the bike near a power source.

  • Going to the south of France touring. Do I take my smt or do I buy a gsxr 750.

Tough call. Think I'll take the smt as it's all set up and I know it.
