Why do they bother giving those bikes cranks and a drive?
Don't you know they ride fixed?
-
• #678
They use HUGE ratios too, why not add extra power to your run if you're going for speed records?
-
• #679
I suppose they use the pedals to help get up to speed quicker at the start of the descent? My pointis, once they have reached 50mph +, pedals and drive are surely redundant. At those speeds they'll just be hanging on for the ride.

Nope, just run a really big gear, say 55-13 and I'm sure if you work our the RPM you'll see you can keep accelerating through 50, it'd sure be interesting to have a go on one of those.

Might also have something to do with them having to be bikes. If it didnt have a drive then it wouldnt really count surely?
-
• #682
Probably, then it might a non powered vehicle record.

Past a certain speed its always going to be faster to get in an aero position than to pedal, no matter the gearing. If it wasn't they probably would have figured it out by now and put a much much bigger gear on that thing.

And i'm fairly sure that speed is under 60mph.

this is so cool. I have never actually seen a girl dealing with such greasy mechanisms! I am not sure if I like her or if I am scared of her...
Are you in the 19th century?

Nah they even dealt with big thread making machines back then.
Women have always dealt with machines since before the victorian era it's just not been in the public eye much as it was mainly working class women. -

You can't just expect people to get sarcasm through text if it's not blindingly obvious.

• #689
Oh you can, all right, ...

downhill speed record is over 100mph.

I think he may have meant the speed at which pedalling won't accelerate you anymore.
-
• #696
he looks happy.. they must be skys 2013 bikes.

Just remember, everytime you drive over a bridge, the guy who designed it most likely had that same motto.
