Probably you're right... my bad: only after reading your post I noticed the tiny lock. But then again, after posting the pic here I spent some time browsing the Frankenbike thread, and thought the pic perhaps would had fitted better there....

There is a triail (its faint), and yes those are cracks.
I'm not sure how the ice managed to form so clear. But I'd guess at a slow freeze, that pushed out impurities as it progressed. The cracks are due to the weird way water expands when it freezes.
I have a frozen lake behind my house. Looks shite compared to that though.

(i'm pretty sure) The Audax UK's fixed wheel award has the slogan "If it isn't fixed it must be broken" which sounds much better!
