Tarpaulin is tarpaulin. But truck tarp is very thick.

Very cool!

Thanks all! Makes a nice change from making bags. I haven't been very motivated to make stuff lately as there's nothing to use it for. New rucksack and wald basket tote bag are on the list to make eventually though.

Where do you lot get your woven sew on labels? Been having a look on google but most places are 500/1000 min order.
Cheers

What should I be doing for waterproofing seams? I've got some decent thread and material and a waterproof zip but not sure how to make sure I'm not just allowing water to pour in via the holes in the seams

Nothing will be truly waterproof without seam sealing, which is generally complicated and/or expensive to do properly.
Providing you’re using a sensible outer fabric + tension on your machine is set up correctly, once sandwiched together with the rubberised zipper it’s going to let very much water through.
Using the thickest possible thread in the smallest possible needle will help a bit. You can also put a small amount of silicone or similar along the stitch line (between the layers). Apply with a small brush or similar, don’t try to run a bead from a caulk gun 😊

Nice cap, thought about making a shirt? It's pretty satisfying, and starting one usually increases my motivation to make other stuff. The pattern I use is https://thefoldline.com/product/fairfield-shirt/ but there are loads.

I've got some tent seam seal kicking around somewhere I can also use

I read something about dilluting silicone with methanol, to make is easier to apply to seams, but I haven't tried it myself.

I've only done some basic reading up on it but the conclusion seems to be to get some seam seling tape and an iron. Practice on scraps first.

AliExpress. Last year I ordered 50 printed labels for ~€13, I'm about to order 500 woven labels for €35, will probably get sick of the design before I'm halfway through but it's mostly setup costs. 1000 would have been €10 more, and 100 maybe €5 less so I thought 500 to be a happy medium.

Makes it just like seamsealer.

That’s brilliant, hadn’t thought of there for them to be honest, will have a little look once I’m settled on a design I’m happy with! Cheers

The printed labels were fine, I'm hoping the woven labels will be good too. I'm in talks with this seller but nothing happening at the moment due to Chinese new year. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000178248604.html
I'll let you know what the quality is like, process is a bit of a pain because every time I ask for something I get a proposal that's slightly different.

I got a brass stamp, 20mm square, for stamping in to leather and making in to labels. worked out really well. a woman at work got really angry at me for lying to her about making my own bag, as it had a label on it. she said there was no way I made it. so it must have been good enough
stamp cost £15, its really accurate with sharp edges and can make as many as I want from leather scraps

That's the best form of compliment!

Yeah that would be great to hear back once you receive them, can be a pain communicating over Ali sometimes!

This shoe compartment is probably the most complicated thing I've ever done. Absolute pig of a job, a bit disappointed in the unfinished edges near the bottom as it could have been avoided by more accurate cutting. But after endless theorising I decided to just go for it and make it work, as I couldn't figure out how it would work out around the zipper ends.

Sourced enough xpac to make a few hiking pouches. Probably do a few small wallets as well.

Yeah I would love to. Pattern looks cool, thanks! I'll definitely have a go when I work up the courage/motivation.

Race day bag or...?
Maybe you can source some used stuff like Freitag does?
