We have two weeks booked for mid-January in Chatel, not feeling very confident currently.

Yeah sorry, I feel like I jinxed it…

Hopefully Omicron will turn out to be similar to Delta and everything will calm down a little.

Listening to someone from Moderna on the news this morning it sounds like the vaccines may need to be tweaked for this variant.

Just had a chat with Booking.com, and as I'm past my cancellation date I pay basically the whole amount if I cancel now. White knuckle time for a fresh Covid lockdown in France.

Switzerland have lifted their quarantine requirements:

Yep. Skiing be back on. The timing is convenient as I had until 11pm tonight to cancel my hotel booking without charge.

Bodes well, perhaps the Omicron panic is subsiding.

To ski three valleys the requirement is for health pass or recent covid or in resort pcr test. You also need to wear a grade one medical mask when using the lift system. There are mask options available in resort for €15.

So er, anybody want to buy a pair of roller skis?

• #1588
Nope.
Literally nobody in the whole world ;-)

So you’re the guy on Woolwich common

Nah, I think that guy was the former Greenwich Park guy who just imploded in embarrassment so switched parks. I'm the new Greenwich Park guy who backfilled him.

I'm getting more and more gloomy about the chances of making it to France in January.
If we get lockdown/no travel does that mean I've lost the cost of the hotel unless they change their policy on cancellation, or is there an option to for e.g. pay the invoice on a credit card and then claim on the cards travel insurance?

Is it like snow skiing?
Looks like Im going to in France/Italy for christmas by myself. Was thinking of going Skiing. Not gone in years and no ski gear here that is not at least 20 years old.
Should I spend time getting lesson or wander up and drink gluwien and make snowmen.
-
• #1593
Could you get a lesson before? Much more reasonable in a snowdome than in the mountains. If you like it get another out there, and if not gluwein and snowmen a very pleasant alternative!

Don't think there are any indoor ski slope close to me. Search says there is only one indoor ski slope in France, and that is near the luxembourg border.

We tried to move our January trip. Since there is no official ban on travel we are stuck. Hoping one of two things happen. Firstly Omicron blows through real quick and we are out the other side by the time we travel. Secondly either France or UK bans non-essential travel.

I need to book something for the night of the eighth as we won’t make our hotel by 5pm on the 9th if we leave that morning, but feels like throwing good money after bad- although of course currently we can travel.

We’ve stayed in this Campanille. It would mean you get nearly there on day one and could sneak an afternoon ski in on day 2 or a full day if you get up early doors.

Neither will do that...just give the quarantine issues.
Gah. Switzerland have announced 10 day quarantine for Brits. Fuck.
