  • Rip...

  • Rest in peace Paul. It was a true privilege to meet, talk and ride with you. Your presence always brightened me up. Chapeau big man.

As others have already said, well done to James, Em, John and everyone else who went to see Paul or did anything to make him more comfortable throughout his illness.

Such a legend deserves something big to celebrate his memory.

  • I never met Paul, it's really sad to hear of the passing of such a big character. The stories I had read knew he was strong and this thread has shown it. This has all shown what an excellent community this forum has created and I hope there'll be an epic event planned to celebrate his life and the support the forum provided.

  • RIP Paul, we'll miss you

  • Very sad news. James, Em, Pigfarmer, and Dropout, it must have made it so much easier for him to have your and the forum's support. He can rest in peace now. He will be missed.

  • That's so sad. RIP Fiddy.
    James, you've been a champ.

    James+++,

    RIP Paul,

    Chapeau 50/14.

  • really sad news.

it was a joy to have known paul.

i first met him on a brighton ride a few years ago.

like most on the ride when i got to brighton i was tired and caught the train back.

    paul rode back.

paul was also very supportive in getting easts drinks going. he came over all the way from west london turning up to the tt events, smiling and generally horsing around etc.

    a lovely man.

    i will miss you paul.

well done to all those who looked after him the last few weeks. respect.

  • RIP Paul, you shall a stay a part of this forum in the thoughts of all those who had the pleasure of meeting and knowing you.

  • See you on the other side, my friend. Happy cycling and rip.

  • Paul. You are my all, my everything. I'm so proud of you. Through all of this you have remained strong, an inspiration to be held up to the light. I could not have asked for a better companion and my life would have been noticeably poorer had you not come crashing in to it those two short years ago.

James, John & Jon. My thoughts are with you, I am sorry that I cannot be with you today. Please take care of each other.

    Mors et fugacem persequitur virum

  • RIP Paul - a true gent. It was lovely to have met you and to have experienced moments like standing under a ramshackle hut on Dunwich beach to escape the rain.

    Much love

    Alex

James, Em and and Pigfarmer and to all those who looked after him you have so much of my respect and admiration.

  • DJ, Jon, Em & John hope you can be with friends or family today.

  • with your passing you have taken a little piece of each of us but greater than that you have left a bigger part of yourself for us all to be humbled by, respect and remember.

the other day you said you liked a band called Gong who had not heard of before. i am guessing this is them with the so fittingly entitled SHAMAL. i hope this is them and as you ride off over the clouds with angels in your slipstream you can nod your head to the beat.

keep riding and keep sending us little signs that all is good on the other side.

    with much love

sorry if i missed something paul

  • Rest in peace for a short while Paul...then go and show that Tom Simpson geezer how it's done eh?
    You'll forever be an inspiration.
When the weather seems 'too bad'...and the hills 'too steep',
When my lungs are aching, and my legs are getting weak,
When my mind starts telling me i'll never reach the top,
The thought that keeps me going is...Would Fiddy REALLY stop?

We may have lost a hero, but we've gained a legend.
    X

  • Rip Paul, I only hope I'm half the (crazy)man you were.

When I see you over the other side I'll have my carbon bike and we can go spin up some mountains.

Rip you great man. Also everyone who helped look after Paul in the past few weeks, well done and now get some rest.

    Jimbilly.

  • A sad day for anyone who had the pleasure of meeting or getting to know Paul, and even for those who didn't. I think we can all take pride in the fact that his final few weeks / months were made so very special by the efforts of everyone who visited and sent gifts and messages. We have ensured he will never be forgotten, and even in death I think that's the best anyone can hope for. Rest in peace Fiddy, may the angels of bike heaven be turned green with jealousy by your bling.

  • RIP Paul.

I'm a bit lost for words as I was about to visit tomorrow, and I've only just found out now that Paul passed today. Paul's smile was a ray of light and he was very welcoming the first time I met him at East drinks, he also spoke to me as if we had known each other for ages.

My thoughts also go out to his close friends and carers from this forum

  • A truly gentle person, Paul, you have a marvellous effect on people around you. Lots of love to you and your loved ones.
    Ben

  • What a tragic loss... Paul was a great man, he will live on in our hearts i'm sure.
it's a long climb to the pearly gates, i'm sure he'll be giving it his all, as usual.

  • Ah, Paul. You've always been a supremely generous, funny and welcoming friend.

To me, you personify the good things that come out of this place: a bicycle obsession, a twinkle in the eye, and an anecdote on the lips. That and an appreciation of the ladies.

The world is a poorer place without you, but as has been said above, you've brought laughter and been an inspiration to many. I'm pondering whether to put on full-on lycra, drag out the most appropriate bling and ride to the pub to raise a glass in your honour.

Locks of course, will be left at home.

    Fiddy, we will miss you.

To Em, Drop Out, DJ, Pig Farmer, Pip; I can only aspire to have such supportive friends, I'm quite humbled by it. x

  • I'm so so so sorry to hear this. I never met Paul but have been keeping an eye on this thread in wonder at how much love, help and support has been shown on this forum from everyone but particularly the obvious few. You are all an incredible bunch.

  • a very sad day. Just found out.
You will always be a part of me.
    rest in peace buddy.
as everyone else has said, well done all those that were able to be there, to care and be with him.
And hope you are with loved ones today, x

  • Farewell Paul, rest in peace, I will miss you.
