Hi there!
Just registered in order to join this discussion. :-)
I'm about to order a Steamroller the next days with all necessary parts needed to get it rolling.
But it appeared to me, that I just can't go with a standard set of road race callipers. It rather needs a set with a 47-57mm reach. What do you guys use?
I'm looking at some Tektros, but these model numbers are more than confusing.... -
• #556
Are you using it fixed or ss?
Missmouse may have one spare tektro caliper but you would need to find long bolts and fittings.
-
• #557
I plan to go fixed.
Still hope to get a set though, just in case. -

Also check out shimano R450 which have a brake drop of 57mm - enough for the Steamroller. and pretty cheap too.
I have the Tektros on the Moulton, but they perform rather sluggish*, the R450 is much more predictable.
There's a "better" one called the R650, but I found the R450 plentiful, even when using old brake levers, the difference appear to be simply the shoes on the R650.
*the pad could be a contributing factor.

I'm running the Dia Compe BRS 101s both front and rear. ~£40 for a pair from Tokyo Fixed Gear.

I'm sure wherever you buy the frame will have brakes for it and will be able to advise you as well.

Is it sad to wake up in the morning and start thinking about my Steamroller?

Only if it's in the bed next to you.

I left something at work last night, but only worked it out when I'd got home - drat - had to bomb back. Made my nine-mile commute into 27. I think I was still riding my Steamroller in my sleep. IN fact, I was a little surprised not to see it next to me under the duvet...

Wow, it must have been really nice weather, or a really important thing...

Absolutely not.

Thanks for the responses. Somehow I realise a day later I hijacked the thread.
Sorry about that, but after being a potential owner, I thought it might be justified in this case. ;-)Anyway, I'll go for the dia compes. Some time ago I came to the point never to use Shimano parts any more.
So maybe today or tomorrow the order will be off, but it'll take time until all parts are there and built.
Pictures will be shown once set up!

Weather was OK, but it was really, really important. I accidentally binned an old hard drive. That data in the wrong hands could have been a nightmare.

Bitrunner - I think consensus is that shimano make some if the best road calipers around.
Missmouse - more talk like that and you will wake up to find a decapitated steamroller headtube in the bed.

run it with a goldfinger lever and big endo emergency stops can be done one-fingered. if one so wishes.it seems 20 people also like them on wiggle:

@ Bitrunner, I run dia compe too. Never had a problem, even on a unmachined rim. The inital squeaking was horrible though! To add confusion, I am putting Shimanos on my new build though...
