hi, I'm looking at buying my first 'roller, it'll be second hand and has a cut steerer. what is an acceptable & versatile length please?

I've seen some cut super low

Head tube length is different on different size bikes so steerer tube length is relative to the size of the bike and then you need to figure in what you are going to do with the bike and how flexible you are to different fits.

worst case scenario you could buy a new fork for about £75 if you had to.

This one comes chopped to about 70mm on 56cm roller

I don’t know if that’s reasonable?

I've got these on mine, there ace but needed a few mods to make them work which was a bit of a ball ache at the time but now there fitted that's all forgotten.

I got Armourtex to add eyelets to my 'roller when it was sprayed. It did cost much and then I was able to dispense with P-clips. Totally worth it. Robust and no rattle. I was using SKS chromoplastic mudguards and ket with them.

No the surly fork has 38mm rake and nothing can beat that in handeling.
And I'm a courier and travel 3 weeks a year.

Getting a disc fork for my Steamroller and going down the 650b, fat tyres route.

Orlowski have quoted me 182 euros inc shipping for replica fork with IS mounts in Reynolds steel.

I have emailed Omnium about their CXC forks which have the same rake but are 5mm shorter and they do them in matt black, vivid blue or green and ask 649 dkk for them, which google says is just £78, with shipping on top.

So custom built replica forks or ones a fraction shorter but for half the price. Hive mind aid me.

You could also ask omnium about the long cxc fork's axle-to-crown measurement.

The crown is about 2cm thick so wheel has to be under radius 35cm on the short version = max 50-55mm 650b tire without mudguards? (try measuring a 650b wheel to get an idea of size)

or buy a disc trucker 26 fork (376mm/45mm) and get someone/yourself to re-rake it -> https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/285132/

or don't modify it and find out that quick handling is super fun....
