I'm just gonna go for it, and swap out for a smaller size if one comes along. Ta!
-
• #1953
I'm 6'1 and a 58 would be slightly too big. A 62 would be massive
-
• #1954
AFAIK the Surly is longer and lower than the Pearson.
-
• #1955
I think you're right and iirc the Pearson had an oddball seat tube angle which made the tt physically long but virtually short....of that makes sense. I never did manage to dial it in.

It does make sense, I actually made a topic about this;
https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/248406/
Long story short; while top tube become longer due to the slacker seat tube, the distance from bottom bracket to headtube remain the same.

is that with a disc trucker fork? the 650b one?

The standover height is the least important part about bicycle fit, it was invented by an American because they don't like straddling the top tube.

I appreciate that the fit will be less than ideal. I'm mostly scrambling since my current beater's frame just cracked, and the market for steamrollers is pretty liquid. So, I'm hoping this will do for now while I wait for a better size.

Also, when in Rome…

Ok it's not a roller.
I am 6 1 the blue frame is something like 62 or 64cm.I had a quill adapter to run a 40mm MTB stem.
While i could ride the bike allright, and it was fine for pootling about town, it always felt ungainly and like riding a gate, i just felt like i was perched on top, trying to ride fast or throw the bike around was awkward.
Ride was plush though.
So you should get away with it, just don't expect to be too racy around town :)

That looks like a traffic cone with wheels, can see why it's not a great ride.
I tend to prefer frames on the smaller side, esp with drops.

I'd suggest 60 or 58 to, personally i'd size down my surly's from now on, i'm only 5'7'' and i'm itching for a 49cm roller, my 52cm CC still feels kinda big

For reference I'm 6 2 and ride a 56 steamroller and a 54 pacer, both fits really well
-
• #1965
Would be interested in seeing a pic of this pacer build, I'm 178cm and would be going for 54/56.
-
• #1966
Don't have any shots of the actual build, but it's similar in proportions to this when it comes to seatpost showing, stem and spacers

Do you have a front mudguard, and, if you do, do you get any toe overlap? I used to ride a 53 because it was mighty small and convenient for carrying up and down stairs at home and at work. My only beef was the toe overlap with a front mudguard.

Get used to it

Hiya, after having my fuji stolen last week I've decided now is the time to make my streamroller dream a reality. Is anyone selling a 56cm steamroller f&f? preferably black or white

Newbie here, ordered myself a Steamroller through my LBS today ready to collect late next week. First fixie edit: Fixed Gear, super keen to try it out!
-
• #1971
Congrats. Just never say "fixie" if you want to be welcomed on the forum ;)
-
• #1972
Ah, good to know, thanks. Just been reading the 'First Rides' thread, now bricking it for the first descent home from work on the Surly!
-
• #1973
do you have brakes ?
-
• #1974
Front only at this point - hoping to force myself to learn to brake 'properly' rather than make it too easy for myself to bail out!
-
• #1975
There are no rules on how to ride a fixie wixie.
Just fit two brakes if you don't feel comfortable, ride with flat to get use to it (but strongly suggest foot retention), keep thinking about keep pedalling, etc.
I'm 6' and had a Pearson Touché in 60 and that was ok. A 62 might not have a lot of seatpost showing and a relatively shorter stem might compensate for the longer tt. I suppose it depends on how snug the tt is against your crotch when at a standstill.
