  • Anyone sold a collection as a job lot recently? Got about 800-1000 records, probably about a third are jazz/funk/soul/rock/ost rare records, a third UK and US hip hop 12” and albums and the rest fairly common 69s/70s rock and pop. Some newer jazz too, London stuff Ezra collective etc. Have not been buying records for a while so no idea what prices are like but keen to sell together as far too lazy to go down the discogs route. I’m in north London, used to sell a bit to flashback in the past, perhaps I should pay them a visit…

  • I might be interested. PM incoming

  • Me too

  • Might be interested in some of the hip hop

  • Anyone biten the bullet and pre-ordered the Andre 3000 triple-album (New Blue Sun)... only £86 on Amazon.
Is it down to greed from the artist and labels or increased production costs?
    Crazy times!

  • Yea, fuck that!

  • I paid £50 for the reissue of Harvest Time earlier this year. Lots of extra stuff like photos, booklets etc in addition to beautiful sounding records, but it still wasn’t worth it. In my head it was £35 max really. £86 is aimed squarely at the goons who “heard vinyls (sic) are cool again”

  • Hi, iv got about 80 David Bowie, Beatles, Queen and misc records. All are original from the time of release so 60s/70/80s ect
Going to be partying ways with some. but obviously need a price. Iv been on disc cogs but it appears to come up with multiple prices but does say or explain condition ect so I just need a hand on how to go about this. Sorry if a silly question.

    Cheers

  • Discogs will contain multiple entries for a release denoting all the different pressings, so if it’s a popular release by a popular artist you could have hundreds of separate entries from different pressings around the world.

You should be able to decipher which precise release you have by looking for unique identifiers - runout etchings or barcodes. Look under the ‘IDs’ tab on Discogs entries.

Regarding grading, there is a guide on Discogs to help: https://support.discogs.com/hc/en-us/articles/360001566193-How-To-Grade-Items

When you know which pressing you have and you’ve conservatively graded it, you can look through the sales history and the current listings to come up with a price.

  • It looks like you have some decent titles there. Covers look to be in VG condition at best and that suggests they've been played quite a bit which inevitably means wear and tear so most likely VG condition.

For the kind of titles you've pictured there in VG/VG condition you'll likely be selling around the £15 - £30 mark. If you want a bulk sale you might get dealers offering quite a lot less.

I've been given crates of records like this from time to time. Some great albums but normally the good ones are played and enjoyed and a bit worn out.

  • Cheers for the information guys , iv been putting the codes on the back into eBay and disc cogs and have some idea or pricing now. Iv just started to list them in eBay now described as good condition which is on the lower end in disc cogs but I feel this is fair and covers my back.

They could all do with a good clean but I'm reluctant to do it as I feel the right kit ect is needed.

  • Just need a microfiber cloth, and some solution to clean them with, a a bit of washing up liquid and alcohol in a shorter sprayer and wipe over with a micro fiber cloth, or magic sponge. If they're particularly cruddy a wet play through might do you some favours.

  • Just received completely wrong record from Redeye Records that happens to have the same label catalogue number PR-001 as the one I did order.
This is why you should always use packing slips.

  • Instant refund for record and postage and I get to keep the record too. Man you really should be using packing slips.

  • Would love to invite people from here to record a mix.

  • Discogs sellers, a question. A purchaser isn’t happy with a record, and I’ve offered a return and refund. Is the etiquette I pay for the return postage, and refund the full amount (record+initial postage)?

  • Only time this happened to me I paid the return postage. I was happy that the seller was courteous when we disagreed on the condition

  • Unfortunately the buyer can insist. Sometimes it's easier to work out a partial refund where they keep the record. If not it can be expensive to pay for postage twice.

I've sold a few hundred and never had to pay return postage though. Apart from the time when I sent the wrong record to Germany!

  • You can wait and see if the returned record is as you described it and then make a call. If they open a PayPal ‘not as described’ case then you can require them to return it and they will have to pay the return shipping.

Ultimately, it costs about £3 to post a record and I’ll happily pay that to save the time that these disputes can consume.

  • It costs a bit more to post it recorded.

  • Especially from Germany 🙂
