  • Well Tempered?

  • Yep, paired to a Naim Uniti Nova & Neat Motive SX2 speakers. Quite happy with how it all sounds, although I'll probably never get used to how flimsy the turntable looks ;)

Anyway back to the vinyl. Latest purchase is this from Causa Sui, who tend to turn out the most wonderful jams at times, and there's more interesting bands where they come from; https://elparaisorecords.com/ also hosts Mythic Sunship, and Papir up until recently. Great pressings, recommended.

  • I've got Mythic Sunship - Upheaval for sale on Discogs (priced to keep in fairness). They are a great label, good to collect too as they seem to keep the represses to low numbers and as you said, quality pressings and covers.

I had considered the Well Tempered decks before. They would work in the space I have. It's too easy to stick with the SL1200 though, direct drive is so much set and forget. Not surprised you are happy with the sound though, that's a decent setup by reputation.

  • One of my favourite albums from the eighties to be re-released on vinyl:

  • despite having +10,000 tunes on my iPod classic (transferred from CDs mostly), i haven't owned any vinyl since 1991 because I sold everything mostly 12" imports and albums, with much regret probably worth a mint today.

So this is about to change as I want to DJ again, but only purchasing 7" singles from the 60's 70's and 80's.. first in my collection is this find on ebay.. its gonna be an expensive hobby, however spinning records at home will bring alot of joy, that and owning a technics SL 1200 mk3 turn table.

  • ^ I've just found out there was a "James Brown's Funky People part 3" released in 2000 for RSD, 12 years after Volume 2. I've probably got very track on it on other albums but BUGGER.

  • Yes I saw that going through eBay this week. I have vol 1 and vol 2 in CD format

Vol 3 has a track by AABB called ‘pick up the pieces (one by one)’.. this was James Brown’s response to AWB with ‘Above Average Black Band’.. I love that, made me smile.

So it's either $30 + $15 p&p vinyl from the US.. or just accept an itunes copy for £0.99

I should put this in the best covers thread..

  • The Skream 12" is a great piece!

  • But that Artwork 12 is a tasty one! Rank is the main tune on that release.

  • Such a great era, J Da Flex's Underground Knowledge introduced me to this sound way back then.

Just listened to the RSD one, I really like that.

  • Anyone bought any vinyl from the EU recently? What import/handling charges were you charged?

Iration Steppas - Kilimanjaro is being re-releasd on Friday but is shipping from France. I guess whatever the import costs it will still be cheaper than buying an original pressing!!

  • Listened to this for the first time in ages tonight. The Digital Mystikz remix is incredibly good.

  • Bought a record from Germany recently. Didn't get charged any additional fees.

Do you know what time the pre order drops on the site???

  • Everything from EU on Discogs gets added fees now, but I think that's been covered already.

  • I've not had extra charges on entry, but up front shipping costs are very inflated from many EU sellers.

  • Maybe the added fees were included in the shipping costs? I didn't notice any additional fees when I made the purchase.

  • You think kilimanjaro will sell out before midday?

  • I think so (I guess it depends on how many they release but it is saying it is a limited release).

  • Couple of things arrived from discogs

  • Nice, what else?

  • Definitely used to rinse that loud back in the day. Lovely roller.

  • Bad Manners 7", for fun as it was £3 and reminds me of being 8 years old.

Buddy Rich live at Ronnie Scott's which turned out to be a bit too big band swing for me.

So, bit of a mixed bag. Excellent seller, John Manship. Very clean and well packaged.

It is worth taking a gamble sometimes. I quite often used to do that back in the day when I used to go to record shops and flick through 12"s (and they were £3.49!!). I discovered some great music that I bought on a whim, I guess it was the equivalent of surfing Spotify nowadays.

Edit: I have a Zachary Breaux album recorded live at Ronnie Scott's that I took a punt on years ago and it is great!
