  • FSOL's Accelerator

The only thing I'm interested in

  • Maybe go with that recipe then. I'm no scientist!

My recipe is about 8 drops from each bottle of Tergitol, i.e. the oil based and water based as far as I understand. Thing is I have a tendency to start at 5 and then do an extra one and a year later it's 8.

I would probably have problems keeping it for the length of time it will last if I only used 2 drops each time. There must be a level of dilution of the supplied Tergitol to consider to I suppose.

Whatever way you look at it it's very good value in comparison with Art Du Son.

  • I would be very careful with RSD pressings of albums like Boards Of Canada. They could easily be ruined if the usual rush jobs get done. I'm sworn off anything with quiet passages on vinyl at the moment because it's just too much disappointment.

GZ Vinyl will be cranking up the presses to warp speed as we speak.

  • I got the vinyl version of LZ III which is available on it's own as a regular catalogue item complete with the original sleeve.

Apparently JP's remastering is not widely loved for the treatment of the drums. It's the best version I have though. Did you find the other CD's and LP interesting?

  • Likewise the FSOL stuff has been average in quality in previous RSD's and this years is set up to be a stinker so caveat emptor.

  • Yeah the RSD Archived:Environmental:Views is terrible quality

  • Quality control seems to be so bad for new vinyl, I've bought two singles in the last year that have been completely unlistenable... Absolute trash, makes me think twice before buying...

  • I'm having the same problem, although the last delivery at the start of this month was all good.

December, January, February were terrible. I've emailed labels and complained to the distributor but I'm going to start emailing the pressing plants next. Just to try and get replacement disks at least.

I've not made an order for nearly 3 weeks and I had been ordering weekly for the last 4 years. Apparently some of the plants are overwhelmed with orders, short staffed because of social distancing and there was the problem with the Apollo factory burning down so likely acetates have all been coming from stock or the Japanese guy who has had to scale up.

I had been seeing no-fill on 90% of the albums I'm playing and singles quality has been terrible. I don't think I've had one for a year that has much real quality. Although I tend to give 7" stuff a pass because I buy a lot of funk and hip hop so it's loud enough you don't hear the surface noise.

It's a s**t storm. Universal have just raised a lot of prices too.

It does seem like releases from early this year have been much better though. Clearly the Christmas rush caused a lot of rubbish pressings.

  • I haven’t had a chance to listen to the second LP yet. Just each of the albums. They sound great to me. The drums do seem a little subdued when listening to lossless rips of the previous remasters on the same setup but I don’t think it takes away from some excellent pressings.

The quality of the boxed set itself is excellent; the books are very well made and the prints are great quality. Unfortunately it means I’m now trying to locate all the rest. Can’t have an incomplete collection.

  • Maybe go with that recipe then. I'm no scientist

I am curious to find out how much solution you are mixing at once using this formula. That was all.
I only mix 500ml each batch myself as that's the size of my spray bottles (obvs).

  • I'm only mixing 100ml at a time. Maybe my tergitol bottles are much smaller !?!

I'm also not spraying, I'm dribbling it on. I was using a pipette but it's all got a bit louche these days.

  • Dangerous game. Luckily it's not a problem I have, never needed to have a complete set. I thought they were still in print, I'll have to check now.

  • They are. I’m after the first pressings with the individually numbered prints.

  • Ah, makes sense.

A friend has LZ II signed by Jimmy Page. There are good reasons why they could have a genuine one but the disk is in terrible shape. They really want to sell it and keep asking me to help but I'm not keen to get involved with it.

  • That escalated quickly.

  • Got a lead on a HotH copy for £50 but it's being tracked down from some warehouse in Poland. Then I think I can get Coda, Presence and ITTOD for about £90 each. Then I don't need to ever talk about this again.

  • I've been finding this, most frustratingly on some expensive one off import stuff from America, which it's not even possible or worth returning, I've stopped ordering anything I can't easily get replaced.

  • Why are they box sets? What's in them apart from the original LP?

    1. Remastered (again...) LP
    2. 'Companion' LP containing alternative track versions, live snippets etc
    3. 1 & 2 on CD
    4. Large book (80-100 pages) of material from the time of each album; concert photos, posters, liner notes, hand written lyrics etc etc
    5. Numbered (limited to 30k) art print of the album cover
    6. Download code of the album and companion LP in 96kHz / 24 bit

Led Zeppelin I also contains a replica of the original press pack from Atlantic Records that went out to radio & TV stations etc. No idea why but still..

  • Jeez - I resent paying an extra tenner for a 'bonus disc' of outtakes and live recordings that I'll never play. At least they look nice on the shelf.

  • My vinyl collection is all about acquiring the special editions. I've got Tidal, a FLAC collection and Sonos all around the house so I really have no need for them. I like having rare editions and tracking them down is part of the fun.

All 9 of the LZ super deluxe boxsets (numbered first pressings) will probably set me back around £1k once I've sourced them all in mint / sealed condition. On Discogs, they're worth about £1,400 all in and I guess they'll only go in one direction.

  • Sounds cool, enjoy! Make sure you play them!

  • Definitely. Played IV & Physical Graffiti when they arrived last week. I & II arrived today so waiting for the moment when Ayla isn't asleep / I don't have any upcoming meetings, to play them at an obnoxiously loud volume.

  • I've got a few expensive boxsets but I'm not that into them, they take up too much space and the more handling everything needs the more likely I am to drop the box or the disk or crease the special poster :)

Hard to sell though, they keep getting more valuable.

I have one of these from new, it's a keeper though :-

Also bought the reissue and then someone paid a fortune to ship it back to the states (facepalm)

  • Nice.

Most of mine aren't boxed sets but limited runs with coloured vinyl or different packaging or signed or test pressings etc etc.

The shelf above in the picture is entirely made up of limited editions.
