How do you mean?

I played against cosmic twice, once for spinal tap out and once for cogs. I enjoyed the experience however was annoyed that I played better as a sub than a member of my own team.

i know what he means. doesn't really matter in my mind. the sub system works on the assumption that all the best players are already in teams. If we get to a stage (arguably we are now) where the choice of sub can change the outcome of the game in a positive way for the team needing a sub, then it gets weird.
the amount of discussion that there has been on this has made me come to the conclusion that for the league, polo teams should have 4 or 5 players giving them a squad. then if you cant make a fixture you just forfeit. no subbing in.
That's if we assume that everyone cares about the outcome of the league enough to want it to be all like that.
personally i think fine as is. play and let play.

• #105
yeah, had this thought a while ago.
i just wouldn't want to be the 4th or 5th player. -
• #106
well no-one wants to be on the bench
it would be like other team games, if you want to play more you have to go to a club with a lower standard and help them climb the table.
if you want to win more you have to be willing to sit on the bench. i'd rather play at burnley than sit on the bench at chelsea.

it would arguably make the league more interesting with transfers window at christmas, and a more varied results table.
i am behind it.

Snoops that idea is shit, you want football rules go play football.
This is as retarded as the conglomerate army. Infact it's surely the same thing with a different name. You are a muppet.
And the beards suck. -

I agree with this. It does get a bit weird with really good subs, but as long as they are not on a team, I think it is okay to let them sub for whomever. Although I'm not completely firm on this position, but it seems the best to me right now.

Don't make me slap you. Hardcourt polo is not grass polo. -

And I drink coffee.conglomerate army was a bad idea.
but the more i think about this, the more i am behind it. It would make the league really interesting. it would help teams, make playing polo less stressful for people with very busy lives. would also mean that a teams form would fluctuate more. it would solve a lot of problems in my mind, i'm not very good at putting my argument across clearly on the forum. will talk in person.

You south tomorrow, talk to me about it then?
To me it seems somewhat superfluous, I'd like to understand what you're trying to achieve. -

not south, but will discuss. try and forget your hatred of football. i hate football too. its not about that.

yeh thats what i mean, although playing a throwin tourney with *chukkas (serious) ad 5 players that rotate could be really awesome fun. We could do it at mitch where the size of court is similiar to grass...sort a

Snoops, some of us chatted about this on the ferry back from Rouen. The idea of rolling subs or teams of 4 or 5 players was put forward by a couple of us as it linked in well to other team games we've played in the past (not just football, but basketball, cricket etc).
Obvious advantages would be when players couldn't make it and a sub was needed. But the idea also revolved around a squad of players who would all be equal, removing the stigma of being the 4th man warming the bench, and players would be used more tactically within matches.
For example, a team could have one top class goalie, a couple of good finishers and a player who is strong and physical and can keep the ball. If the team had lost their first game they might want to use the most attacking players in the next game to secure a win, or conversely they might have won the first 2 games and will then use the more defensive players in the final game to get the points. Obviously this is just an example.
Ideally, teams are always made up of top class players who can play in any position and are always playing to win, but as the sport progresses, players will develop skills more suited to different styles of play and positions and they would be best used tactically within a squad.

?
But Beards are already a shit team.

I think this has the obvious flaw that the best subs would gravitate to the best teams... If you had a busy life could play in only a handful of games a season, but you were also a good player do you think you'd be subbing for a good team or a west team?!

Exactly!
Teams of this quality are duty bound to disband, simply to maintain a sense of fairness for less able players.
Our lack of goals was sheer martyrdom to the cause of bettering polo, to have played to our full potential would have shattered the dreams of so many and ultimately signaled the end of polo.
not sure if this has been mentioned, sorry if it stirs, but how does it sit if people play within different teams but end up playing against the same team twice, maybe more?
