  • Excellent use of ‘carapace’ there in a pie context. Will definitely be stealing that.

  • I thought it was good too but then the inner pedant in me objected to the use of carapace for lower. Carrapace is only the upper shell.

The under shell is called the plastron

  • As with crustaceans, I like to invert my pies before consumption.

  • dickhead pedant mode engaged

If you do a handstand, your feet don't become your head.

  • They do if you define them as upper and lower shells.

  • I'll fight you

  • Let’s settle for a blind taste test next year - Bread Ahead vs Pavilion. Ambient non-inversion rules apply.

  • I accept your challenge.

  • Pavilion wins. Thread closed until November 2020.

We need more detail on this, or how can we take your word for it?

    Disappointed in Gails btw.

  • p.s. Morrisons wins best supermarket pie. Thread closed until November 2020.

  • Down to leftovers and potentially whatever's in the supermarket clearance aisle. Was given a box of the M&S frangipane ones; I have to say, would ride the almond dragon again.

  • I can't work out if you're trolling or gustatorialy retarded.

  • I still have two unopened boxes from Konditor, and third from which two pies have been nommed.

  • I'm getting concerned I won't make it to a Gregg's before they stop selling mincers - only three left now...

  • Sainsos have reduced their massive stockpile of 6 decks down to 90p a box. There were still LOADS when I had the misfortune to visit a store yesterday.

  • AFAIK professional help is available when you've been subjected to such severe trauma.

  • We got a £1.25 yule log in M&S this morning, down from a fiver. Great stuff.

  • Just been in the local co-op. 4 deckers of puff pastry (I know) mince pies down to 29p. I bought two packs, naturally.

Pastry poor, filling good. Would benefit from 10 mins in the oven.

Now is the time people. This is what we have been waiting for. Mincers for pence!

  • Woah, easy there with all the negative waves! I'd concede that to a straight-edger like fizzy or yourself they might stretch past the acceptable boundaries of mincerdom, but with good frangipane (and these ones did have; nice and buttery, etc.) they're a perfectly tasty thing in and of themselves...

  • 4 deckers of puff pastry (I know) mince pies down to 29p.

    They saw you coming!
Waitrose 6-deck of shortcrust mincers for 25p!
(Yet to try, the four decks I bought are in the stockpile).

  • I feel the need to use this picture for the second time today.

  • I think you need to CALM THE FUCK DOWN. I know we’re bordering on the end of mincer season and it’s all getting a bit hectic, but we’re all in the same boat. You’re going to pop a vein if you’re not careful.

  • You don't know what it's like. The mince pies. Dozens and dozens of mince pies. They get in your soul. They mesh with your identity. Before you know it, everywhere you look, out of the corner of your eye, you can see mince pies. Mince pies when you close your eyes. Mince pies in your dreams. And then January happens. And they're gone. Gone.
