Yeah I think it was. I tried a bit and it tasted fine so I went ahead. Great recipe actually, I’ll post a pic tomorrow

Finally. Now there is no reason you ever go north.

Ah, my local shop that used to stock it ran out quite some time ago. That makes me hopeful that it'll be back in the foreseeable.

I got a massive squeezey chip shop sized bottle for my birthday so I don't need to go to Yorkshire.

Now there is no reason you ever go north.
You've clearly never been to The Angel in Leeds. Change from a fiver when you buy 2 pints and more toothless old men than you can shake a stick at.

Vegans: need a gift, either a cookbook or something to eat/cook with.
The book would need to be a less common one, they have plenty already.

Toothless, you you say? Post-lockdown plans sorted.
(I quite like Leeds. Very nearly moved there in 2017 when I had a job offer in York).

Why would you need teeth for drinking beer? Asking for a friend.
-
• #8336
Once you've got the beer open no teeth are required.

Leeds is a great city, I lived there for a few years until earlier this year. Loads of vegan food and cheap pints to be had.

How about one of the Post Punk kitchen cook books? https://www.theppk.com/books/

What are my vegan alternatives for a roast meat?
-
• #8340
My partner got me Vegan: The Cookbook by Jean-Christian Jury for Xmas last year. It may be quite common, I don't know, but it's great. Shedloads of recipes covering the whole world, not asking for daft amounts of obscure ingredients; I feel quite impressed with myself when I pull off a Djiboutian hotpot or a Laotian curry. Not many pictures, only about a quarter of the recipes have a photo.

Don't consider them 'alternatives'. :)
There are quite a few 'roasts' around, which are basically large chunks of seitan/tofu etc. I've never had one, but I hear they work well with gravy and all the trimmings (whether you're talking about something for Christmas or just a Sunday roast). These are typical examples:

There will be loads more 'out there' now. Rudy's Vegan Butcher does a Christmas version, for instance:

20 years ago there were only one or two, but there must be dozens of them now.

Rudy's vegan butcher has a tofurkey right now which I suspect is delicious.

+1. Got it for my other half for Xmas as well. An attractive and weighty tome, also makes an excellent tofu press. :)

Thanks for the suggestions. I went for Feed Me Vegan and One Pot Vegan in the end.

... and while we're on the subject of Rudy's, it would be rude not to mention this:

You city dwelling folk will know this already, but I just had a Biff's Vegan burger and it was fucking lush.

Any tips of making beatroot mushroom burgers a bit firmer. I put a little rice in today but they were still quite soggy. Thought I squeezed enough moisture out of the mix, do you need to really get all the moisture out of the mix?
Is it just the nigari smell? It's stronger with some brands of tofu than with others.
I haven't used this brand before, so don't know.
