The talk of flatbread and not actually having any food in the house meant I made some flatbread stuffed with garam masala beans and spring onions, good lunch.

Little white lie answer: home made using horseradish donated by an allotment neighbour, blended with white wine vinegar and water.*
Honest answer: ah feck, you got me! I just checked the label on the Saino's stuff and it contains egg. D'oh! Didn't even occur to me. I'm not strictly vegan, my girlfriend is trying to be as much as possible, but I've fessed up and she's forgiven me!
*I did genuinely make some vegan horseradish sauce recently but it was hot as anything and the blending made my eyes hurt. When it ran out I gave in and bought some shop stuff.

Vegan horseradish sauce is easy to make - if you can find the horseradish. I’ve not found any in the woodlands this year so far...

Haha, I wasn't even trying to catch you out- it's just one of those things I get a very occasional craving for, but definitely not frequent enough to mess around and make my own. I was hoping you'd say that there's a particular brand that is accidentally vegan or something and I could pick up a jar next time I'm in the supermarket.

Let me know if you find any! I thought things were going OK when I was just peeling the stuff, quite tough and woody but all completely harmless and a nice radishy aroma in the air, but when the blender breaks up the fibres, ugh! Definitely more pain than it's worth.

Speaking of getting caught out, my girlfriend was a bit miffed to find out her calcium supplements aren't even vegetarian cos they contain gelatin. Any recommendations for vegan calcium/vitamin supplements generally?
-
• #7858
I take these but only 25% RDA calcium so I will watch what other people suggest!

No, definitely worth it. Have some growing nicely on the allotment and even the flowers smell of it. Lovely.

Cheers, that's steered me in the right direction. Looks like these are the right dosage Calcium/Vit D so should do the trick.

Not sure if its what you asked for, but the recommendations (for vegans/vegetarians) are 250mcg of B12 daily and 2000 units (50mcg) Vitamin D.
So if you take those calcium ones you linked to, you’ll not get sufficient vitamin D. Only enough to help with the absorption.I can’t recommend brands as I’m in a different country though.

I take these. Also only 25% of your calcium RDA but presume I'm getting the rest from plant milks & veggies. Maybe not though?

Aubergines, courgette and sweet peppers are my go to bbq veg. Any burger/sausage that tastes good in the oven is only gonna get better on the BBQ
