  • Do you know about Dough Society just off Mare Street Narroway?

    https://www.happycow.net/reviews/dough-society-east-london-109611

  • They are amazing. But I think they are currently closed at that spot? From their social media, looks like some kind of landlord conflict 😔

  • Yes, but Google’s says they are permanently closed. All their social media seems to be inactive.

I did see a post saying they had to close due to problems with their lease (I think).

  • Oh, that's bad news. I didn't know that, have been meaning to drop by there again.

It's a very new development and I imagine the rent is fairly high. Whenever I've been it didn't seem very busy, so I hope it'll all work out!

  • Whenever I've been (at least 10 times) it's been packed. Once they were totally sold out.

This is a bummer, although it might just stop me developing type 2 diabetes.

  • Does anyone have any recommendations for vegan food (doesn't have to be an exclusively vegan establishment, although that would be best) close to Victoria? Google is not turning up much.

  • I quite enjoyed this

..better than most articles on the subject indeed.

you wouldn’t kick a cat to death just because you enjoyed it
..this would make a good t-shirt slogan!

  • haha - I personally like the KALE print t shirt myself.

  • Ha, yea, that one made me smile as well when I first saw somebody with one passing me on the sidewalk
    : ]

  • Anyone know why that Vegan Food Festival this weekend has been cancelled?

  • I just looked up th Madhur Jaffrey zucchini meatballs recipe that's mentioned in that article. Looks great, making that tomorrow. Will report back.

  • For those who work in the City:

    http://fatgayvegan.com/2018/07/19/city-vegan-lunch-market/

The food line-up is pretty immense. I don't know all of them but Fussy Chilesaurus, Greedy Khao, and Battered are all very good in their different ways.

  • I was hoping to get the day off so I could go but alas no. LadyLiz and fgv have worked their asses off to make it this far so if everyone who works nearby(bring your non-vegan colleagues too) could make it down there’s a good possibility they’ll be able to make it a regular event :)

  • Oooh, I don't think I'm working thursday, so this is very tempting.

  • So cool daily just outed himself as a bit of a prick. Check his lasted post of himself in front of some homeless(I presume) blokes. And the comments.

Is this the place in box Park Shoreditch? If so I don't understand the hype, was there fairly recently, wasn't impressed.

  • Yeah that's the ticket, used to be good, but then it got bigger, quality went downhill last time I was there.

  • I've long regarded Quorn as the enemy of veganism, due to their egg-based dominance in the non-meat supermarket sections, but this is promising:

    https://www.theguardian.com/business/2018/jul/23/quorn-invests-7m-r-and-d-veganism-boom

  • Very interesting, reading some of those numbers it seems as though things are really starting to change/ gain momentum.

Also a number of the quorn products are already vegan - but in exactly the same packets (or they were last time I checked) as the non-vegan selection.

What's all this about a bleeding burger too?

  • Also a number of the quorn products are already vegan - but in exactly the same packets (or they were last time I checked) as the non-vegan selection.

They have a green box on the front of the packaging that says 'Vegan'. It's not very big though, and it's on a minuscule proportion of their range.

  • Is there a desire for a bleeding burger? I was given a Linda Mccartney pulled pork burger last month, and the (very impressive) pork texture almost made me gag. No more meat imitation for me.

  • I also thought it was far too meaty the first time I tried it. Have had it again a couple more times since then (they're always on offer!) and it has become progressively less offensive.

Vegan fish fingers are still the superior frozen foodstuff, though.

  • I think the backers of such bleeding plant burgers have the fast food industry as their ultimate target market. Stuffing indolent cattle with soy protein then processing the resultant carcasses is very inefficient.

  • Vegan fish fingers are still the superior frozen foodstuff, though.

    Come again?

    Where can I buy these?!

  • I don't think so, personally, I can't think of much worse.
