  • Thanks... I'll give Oat dream a go...

  • You may have already seen this but I just noticed it and thought it might be relevant to you.

  • Tofu Weiners are great! I think they're the only meat substitute I really have...Nom nom nom.

  • If veganism were a sliding scale, I'm edging my way there bit by bit. Have been veggie for ages, and been having hemp milk on cereal for quite a while now and it's great. I don't drink tea or coffee so can't comment on what it's like in those.
Cheese is a weakness, especially as I mainly make sandwiches at home to eat for lunch on the go... have been making humus with various beans, and have cut down loads on cheese from that.
I would like some other sandwich filling ideas if anyone's got some good simple ones.
Eggs are the other one... (I did say I'm not there as a vegan!) anyway, I get rescued ex battery hens from the BHWT, and give them a run around and lots of cuddles in our garden to spare them the chop. We only eat the eggs they lay.
I think I can feasibly get to no cheese, but while we've got the retirement home for previously caged hens on the go, can't see me stopping eating the odd egg here and there...
    So... sandwich ideas please!

  • Oatly 'barista edition' (grey package) will not curdle no matter what you put it in or how much you heat it.

I keep the fridge at work well stocked. Predictably, people have been putting it in their tea/coffee when they run out of cow's milk and now they prefer it to cow's milk and have started buying it themselves.

  • still can't quite believe my eyes with gabes extolling veganism after so much abuse about it on FB before. Glad to see it.

  • The grey stuff was recently on special offer at Ocado for a pound a litre, so we hoard bought a load of it. It tastes better than the blue or tan coloured ones regardless of the barista advantages.

  • Cheers for the apology.

    Sounds perfect...

  • Long time veggie (32 years, minus a few years or eating meat in the last few years) here, and I've just watched the Simon Amstell thing and instantly realised that I can't do dairy or eggs anymore. Do people supplement protein? I tend to have a whey shake most days but have been trying to switch to snacking on nuts recently. I find taking protein helps my recovery when I'm doing midweek intervals, so think I should probably try and keep topping it up. I grew up veggie and have a veggie son so am well used to cooking/eating with lentils, tofu etc but my only concern is 'on-the-go' protein sources.
I'm expecting to drop a few kg from not eating cheese anymore, as long as I don't replace it with crisps...

  • chocolate soy milk is my go to, readily available in most big supermarkets. or you can buy soy/hemp/pea protein if it must be powdered form.

  • don't line the pockets of hippy business people

Bzzt! Wrong. Please continue lining my pockets.

  • No need to supp protein unless your bulking?

'on the go' - flapjack, nakdbars, clif bars, nuts, seeds etc

for the protein shakes try adding chia seeds or spirulina.

For recovering, lower inflammation in the body - so lots of antioxidant foods - Fruits, green leaves etc.

  • OK cool. I don't supplement much, just got into the habit of having a whey shake to keep me going during the day but won't miss it. Aldi do a good line in fake nakd bars with added protein. Would recommend.

    hehe, nice..

  • Do people supplement protein

Only supplement you need is B12. You can get everything else from plants.

  • No supplementing required. I get my B12 from Weetabix.

  • when you last have levels checked?

  • I check if I'm dead every morning. 100% success rate so far. #sciencing

  • I don't think it's necessary, but if I'm not eating very well I'm convinced it helps if I have a teaspoon of hemp powder mixed with water daily for a while. It could be psychological but sometimes I go through phases of my legs getting tired and I can't decide whether it's lack of sleep or lack of proper nutrition (probably both)

  • I get my B12 from Weetabix.

..only Weetabix "Protein Crunch" though, right?
From what I've gathered the regular Weetabix doesn't contain any B12..

  • Nutritional yeast with B12 and Yeast Extract. Sorted.

  • Or don't wash your (organic) fruit & veg.
