A quite astonishingly biased report on a fur protest in Central London:
Bad journalism, I think, whether you support fur protests or not.

I highly recommend The Little Cooking Pot supper club in Stokey. I went for the Festive Fiesta at Bodega 50 last week and had some really amazing Mexican food (and a couple of glasses of really tasty mulled wine).

So were the portions really as small as Caz feared? :)
Great to hear it was so good.

Going to Brighton for a couple of days in between Christmas and new year. Recommend me your faves! Place I'm staying in has very little in the way of cooking facilities, so it'll be 3 meals out a day!

This happening tomorrow at Hackney Downs Studios:

I'll go for a bit.
(I have no idea why it's illustrated with an image of a lush seashore.)

...just don't make people feel slightly annoyed about basically anything!
"Of course Vegan Christmas Market is a safe space where you can not make people feel shit or even slightly annoyed about stuff like racism, sexism, queerphobia, body shaming or basically anything. You will be removed off site if you try it. If you don’t think you can trust yourself, it’s best you don’t even come along"

Any vegan/veggie restaurant recommendations for Bristol?

Has anyone else been to Cig Koftem on Green Lanes? Probably my current favourite vegan spot in London

If anyone's thinking of going, don't bother. Everything is already sold out or has a queue going back to Stoke Newington...

Oliver, the only portion that was small was the dessert (chocolate and cardamom tart) and had I not already been stuffed, I would have cried ;) I was the only person on my table who managed to eat everything.
When we got there we were served two glasses of mulled wine each and the tables had chipotle spiced nuts. For starters we got a bowl of smokey black bean soup and a tostada. For mains we had two blue corn corn tacos each and three sides.
The most amazing thing about the food was the spicing and complex flavours. The atmosphere in Bodega 50 was lovely. I'll be going again!

Hey Oliver, did you go in the end? I went at 11am and a we stayed for over three hours. I got some of Mouse's Favourite Cheese and Sgaia's vegan meat to take home for Xmas, drank lots of mulled cider, mulled wine; and had a risotto ball burger, xmas sandwich (vegan charcuterie, cranberry sauce, mayo and smoked provonole), vegamisu and cheeze fries!

Ha, nice. Great to hear you had such a good time. Just to make Caz not to feel too guilty--as it turns out I couldn't have made it, anyway. :)

I did, although very late and I had seen kl's warning but went all the same. I managed to have some samples, including some delicious new cheese from Essential Vegan. I normally put 'cheese' in quote marks, but this seemed like 'proper' cheese from Neni's description, aged for at least a month while fermenting. They had, of course, sold out, and he said the next batch would only become available in late January because it takes so long to make! As I said, it was extremely tasty. I also talked to the guy from Mouse's Favourite. They're based in Fulham. All of these little artisanal enterprises were of course completely overwhelmed by the pent-up demand they encountered--it was a roaring success by all accounts and there must surely be potential for someone to organise a vegan market more regularly. FGV said nobody else but him did it at the moment.

It definitely seems like an interesting new foodstuff now that doesn't have anything in common with the more or less rubbery vegan cheeses of yore.
Sean's also put up a blog post about it:

Any advice, here or links to, transitioning to a vegan diet (going from meat and dairy eating)
Just go cold turkey (ha!), or cut out first meat, then fish then dairy? If the latter then over what time period? -

Don't beat yourself up if you make a mistake now and then, number one tip!
To start try making your favourite meals but as a vegan version, this is possible for most meals!
Also, don't let yourself go hungry, I found I craved non vegan things at the start but the cravings were only strong when I was hungry!

Is it me or are vegans really uptight at the moment?
