A couple of new places ive been lately.
http://www.itadakizen.com/
"Europe's First Organic and Vegan Japanese Restaurant"
Went the other night we weren't that impressed maybe we ordered the wrong things
but hopefully it will get better.
It;s in kings crossPure ? i think that's the name, it's linked to peking palace in archway
It's a small all you can eat buffet and you pay what you want.
they have cakes and drinks as well.
Think Vita organic cross between one of those nasty tai buffet places (but the food here is fresh and really nice).
It's on Plender Street which is off camden High st. Just up from mornington cresent.
open 12 to 8/9pm

Good finds, Scrapper! Vegan Japanese--perhaps they just haven't found their feet yet. Have they been open for long? I have a vegan Japanese cookbook and I've made lovely things from that. I'll set up another 'dinner date', for January this time, soon, given that the first didn't work out.

Yeah I think they are in the finding their feet stage they must have only been open a few weeks to a month.
Some of the food was abit bland when it really didn't need to be was my main issue I think. -

So for a romantic Dinner whats the best 3 course vegan meal that people could think of?
Bit stumped tbh- need to cook for the gf, who's trying to go vegan, and i only know a handful of dishes- none really suitable for uber romantic dining experience...basically whats the oyster, etc equivalent for a vegan diet?
not that I've ever eaten oysters- being shellfish intolerant, but well yeah, help!
(please)
Thanks!

i can't recommend Veganomicon y Isa Chandra highly enough. The recipes are complex enough that they really stand out from typical vegan fare, but simple enough that they can be cooked by anyone. it's the closest thing vegan cooking has to a Professional Chef or Larousse Gastronomique. for a 3 course a typical vegan dinner would probably be a raw dish, a starchy/proteiny main, and a dessert... julienne vegetable salads are infinitely more tasty and impressive than "green" salads, main courses based on pasta/rice/cous cous are always satisfying, and dessert, well depends on your lady but chocolate cake or fruit pies are easy to do well vegan.
Amazon link (not that I'm necessarily suggesting you purchase it from Amazon)

I'd go Moroccan. Vegetable tagine, with squash and chickpeas, apricots, tomatoes etc, with cous cous with toasted almonds and fresh herbs, is naturally vegan, as are shitloads of mezze - just leave out the yoghurty ones. You can also make your own flatbreads and dips. The Moro cookbook is pretty brilliant for that stuff.

Do they all have to have such bloody awful titles? I couldn't bring myself to buy anything with 'Yum Yum' in the title. I am not six.

Red rice with a sauce made from tomatoes and balsamic vinegar, pasta (without egg) cooked with homemade pesto (and no parmesan cheese), and for starters you could have (cornflour) tortillas with salsa made of avocados, onions, chillis, tomatoes and coriander. Of course, you wouldn't be able to have cheese in the tortillas, so you can replace that with something else.
you can be very very inventive with vegan cuisine, but of course depends on how hardcore you are.
I am not a vegan myself, and I am trying to be a vegetarian but I am a very bad one! I really like meat, and I don't think there is any reason to not eat meat as long as it is done so in an ethical manner. I also believe that vegetarians and vegans have the same effect in the meat-producing industry as people who just don't like meat: which is none. If you want to change the industry, then boycott the ones who do bad business and support those who do good business, and all in all just limit your meat input to as little as possible, but I believe being fanatic about anything is very stupid and in the past has lead to the world wars, the crusades, slavery, witch hunting and destroying invaluable ancient relics such as writings, paintings and statues. Hitler was a vegetarian too, so BE CAREFUL! :P

Bikefood® are backing the veganism a little. Well, I dunno if they're activists but I'm just pleased whenever a company actually acknowledges the existence of vegans.
One thing I'd like to know is if anybody here actually uses teh bikefood stuff? On another note. Is Guinness vegan now?

In the end I winged it.
Went for:
Starter:
Fried Tofu and Chesnut mushrooms in a sweet chilli soy sauce type dish, served on a bed of cold soba noodles.Main:
Saffron Risotto- made vegan- including the wine- with dried mushrooms.
Served with light baked (you know baking parchment + water) zucchini, broccoli, and some other veg I had lying around.
and a side salad of thin sliced Avocado, tomato, and hemp oil dressing.Dessert:
She brought it- just a simple fruit salad and vegan chocolate.I love me the vegan food.
@plurabelle- If i'd've had time, I would have made tagine, but didn't really.

There is nothing good about hemp protein powder.
Nothing.
And it kills baby dolphins.
So there IS something good about it then?
What would you do if you got headlice?
