..so I guess a lot of people in this thread already went through most of the info on the website of the Vegan Society / guidetoveganliving.org.uk,
anyways here's a good read, Why isn’t everyone vegan yet? by Dr Melanie Joy

Interesting that you don't use any dairy free substitute for cream in your ice-creams.
What do you eat the avocado one with?

Cool, thanks for sharing.
I'm currently hooked on versions of Veganomicon's mustard sauce and tahini/miso dressing.
Slapping them on virtually everything!

Oh my god. Can you imagine a tahini based ice cream?
It exists. Oh man.

^ I'm going to try the banana one tonight as I have some very ripe bananas.
Any suggestions for a replacement for fish sauce?
I've made this vegan fish sauce before and it's good: http://veganmiam.com/recipes/vegan-fish-sauceHave also bought vegan Worcester sauce but was less excited by it.

That would have Ottolenghi peeing in his pomegranate molasses knickers with excitement!I can't get my head in to savoury ice-creams though. Chilled soups too.

The Avocado is anything but savoury! They've such an amazing flavour when sweetened and added citrus.
Also there is little better than a good gazpacho on a hot day... -

Oh, thanks for posting a link to that site, very inspiring stuff on there.

On fish sauce, there's a strange kind of 'vegan fish sauce' that you can buy in some Asian shops. (I've got it from one of the Vietnamese shops in Mare Street.) I have yet to work out how to use it. It's a bit like a thin sweet chili sauce. So far, I haven't been able to detect any properties that would move it close to fishy fish sauce.

Help required by hapless non-vegan...
It's probably been done many times before in this thread. But I'm on the look-out for a good vegan cake/sweet treats shop within easy reach of a meandering High St Ken to Kings Cross commute. I am in the need of some brownie points, as I may be close to dog house territory this week. All suggestions welcomed!

Can anyone recommend a good cookbook for vegan or vegetarian food? I'm looking for something that has lots of fresh stuff; nothing fried, creamy, baked or cheesy.
-

I also have a cookbook-question (actually would prefer links to websites / blogs etc. in this day and age) -
what I'm searching for are recipes / ideas for vegan meals that can be cooked in advance,
and be brought to events where they just need to be warmed up again and can be served hassle-free.So soups of course, last time I did a nice chili sin carne, but I am searching for more ideas.
The thing is stuff has to be repeatedly warmed up, so it has to be something that rather benefits from this fact,
rather than turning soggy (like anything with noodles in it). Thanks in advance for any help!

If you want inspiration and don't mind adapting a little, you can do worse than visiting the recipes pages on www.guardian.co.uk and Ottolenghi's site - thick meal soups, stews, baked dishes etc. - which are more extensive than previously. http://www.ottolenghi.co.uk/recipes
I use Pinterest a lot for ideas with pictures too - here's a search for vegan curries I use, curries are good for reheating and often improve when made ahead:
http://www.pinterest.com/mgonyeo/vegan-indian-and-curry-recipes/If you like quinoa, this Canadian/Australian vegan blogger has loads of ideas for one pot dishes: http://vegangela.com/category/vegan-recipes/vegan-mains/ (Also an amazing raw cookie dough recipe that's apparently healthy.)
I've never reheated a dish more than once - I'm of the (perhaps misguided) understanding that reheating twice or more is a health and safety no-no, no matter how hot you make it. Would be interested to discover this is a myth though!

Thank you for the input!

Just to add, if you have low iron, having vitamin C with your iron sources helps absorption.
