What do I need to buy so that I can connect this guy to a SON hub and a SON rear light. I don't want to wire it to any kind of charger. I'm staring at the SJS website like ??? most of it is out of stock too.

I think you just need some longer bits of wire and some standard spade connectors. Not sure about rear light connection but if it's got a wire coming out then just connecting one wire from front light wires should sort it.

I tugged on the rear wire and it turns out it was just a spade connector...why did they cut the cable...they could have just disconnected it...mysteries of life.

But suspect you might be able to get same from screwfix or similar for less

Internal routing they wanted to reuse maybe?
-
• #4238
Don't cut those wires any shorter than they already are! You'll need some lengths of cable to join to those, ideally some heatshrink to cover the join, and as mentioned the relevant connectors depending on what output your hub has (standard spade connectors or possibly a push-in connector)

I've seen people on here mount rear dynamo lights low near the axle, is there a specific 5omm bracket/mount available that will allow for the 90 degree rotation required, or have people just been bodging something?
I am currently rocking an extremely bodged Secula rear light (for mudguard mounting) on a metal bracket attached to a disc brake adaptor of some sort, but changing to a b&m Topline rear light (with 50mm gap for mounting on rear rack) soon so my gf can use the Secula and wonder if there is a slightly.... neater option?

@ginllfixit There's stuff like this for Supernova, though not always easy to get over here.
You might have lunch with a fabricator replicating something similar however, I've seen similar https://framebuildersupply.com/products/supernova-e3-schmidt-son-tail-light-bracket-seat-stay-mount-black-and-silver

Ah, thanks - yeah that's exactly what I'm looking for. I'll look into getting one made up locally based on that.

Selling a 700c dynamo wheel here:

I do, can’t use it on my new steamroller, guess too late?
-
• #4245
To follow on from my bracket search, I've decided to mount it using one of these pannier rack stays (probably chopped down to size). Looks like it'll work quite nicely.
Annoyingly someone smashed the back of my Secula, so if anyone has a faulty one going spare I could use to harvest the plastic cover off then please let me know

I finally get a bike sorted and now looks like Supernova E3 triple discontinued?

Are cheap dynamo hubs a false economy? SJS have some shop soiled Shimano ones right now which I think would be quite fun to build into a 26" wheel for my shopper. I'm a complete neophyte but the discourse feels a bit like it's a given that it's SON or nothing.
-
• #4248
Mostly Shimano dynohubs used here with only a couple of SON. Value for money is right up there, as long as you back off the bearing adjustment a shade.
-
• #4249
The discourse is dominated by weirdos. Shimano more than good enough for a shopper.

how much is it? SP cant be that much more expensive.
I have some hunt wheels but had a dynamo wheel built reasonably cheaply by Spa Cycles rather than shredding my front wheel for it. Very happy with the wheel as I don't use the dynamo all the time.
