I really rate the IQ-X. It's so bright and have never had a problem with it.

Ha, came here to ask about dynamo light recommendations and in particular this one! Seems to tick the boxes of not too expensive and not fugly. I do have the IQ-X on my TdF and it's pretty great so keen to know how the IQ-XS compares.
Edit: I'm gonna buy an IQ-XS and if it's noticeably worse than the IQ-X I'll swap them as I hardly ever use my Tour de Fer and hardly ever ride at night while touring. Will message you a bout a .de order

IQ-XS is great, got one on my Brompton, really bright. Much whiter light than my supernova e3. Different beam pattern but brighter.
IQ-X blows them both out the water, I’m about to replace my supernova with IQ-X. Rode alongside someone with an IQ-X and it completely obliterated my supernova, the light look like it was coming from an old gas light by comparison.

I did RRTY on IQ-X. Its fine, condensation in long exposure in winter is an issue. We are talking 8 to 10h rides or outdoor storage.

• #2356
Same as most lights non SON!
-
• #2357
I wonder if a dissassembly and reassembly with tape/grease in key points would help the condensation.
Going to go for IQ-X, thanks very much all

I used some PTFE tape around the inside of the threaded lens lockring on my IQ-X. Haven’t had any more problems with condensation

Would this:

I need opinions not photos. I dont care what it looks like from my perspective, just want to know if I'll get hit by a car because nobody can see me

I reckon its fine

(having never used either)

Does it have a stand light? I want a stand light but I can't remember exactly why
-
• #2367
Anyone in this thread with some actual Dynamo qualifications want to chime in?
-
• #2368
Has parking light. I think thats the same thing.
I can't remember exactly why
So you aren't stood in the dark every time you stop at traffic lights
-
• #2369
No, get a b&m Avy* with standlight as a minimum.
The one you linked is shit and the stand light capacitor always falls off and rattles around inside.
Do I win?
Edit: I wrote this before following Phil’s link, that one is what I suggest and is a good light.

the ideal middle class headlight

Deal on for the IQ-X is anyone has been tempted to get one by this thread, like I was
-
• #2374
£75 isnt cheap enough not to get SON

IQ-X > Son
Okay thanks both. I'm going from a Luxos U, which I loved. I might stump up the extra cash for the IQ-X if the XS beam pattern isn't so great. Really don't fancy another ugly Luxos on my bike and can't afford Supernova goodies.
