Yeah saw that, they are out of stock though.
But sounds like I'm going to either have to swap out rear for a supernova rear plus get a switch (£50 + £18) or get new front that can be turned off (IQ-X is ~£80)....

The E3 Triple has a switch on the back of the light. Fine if you mount it on bars or brake but if you've mounted it out of reach you'll want a remote switch wired in.

isn't that essentially 80 quid? #thanksbrexit
-
• #1106
More than 80 when you pay postage.

My E3 Pro 2 has a switch on the back too.
Either way, I've currently got it wired up with the switch which Igaro make, and it works well. Only real annoyance at this point is the absurd amount of weatherproof connections and general wiring that are really difficult to tidy up now.

Mine only has one wire and a box.

The E3 can be turned on and off. You can't charge and run the E3 with a charger at the same time. The E3 pure doesn't have a switch.

Ah yes, I see there are some variances in models, some of which are designed to run back to the tail light as with mine.
-
• #1111
The E3 Triple will run at low light while USB is charging. I don't know how healthy this is for the light.
-
• #1112
If I try I get almost zero power to my charging unit. I don't think it's unhealthy for the parts, just blah.

I'd happily lend you my sinewave beacon for a bit if you can be bothered to fit the spade connectors on the end of the cable.
I can't really use it until my new fork is built. -

Thanks but I don't have a dyno bike at the moment. I broked it.
Let's see who gets their shit together first :) -

My situation is in the hands of Rob English... So my money is on him... Now if it were down to me, you'd be a clear favourite! :)

Just had some Beacons hand delivered by David from Sinewave. He just explained to me that you should only be running the light and battery pack in circuit if you are running the light on the low setting, so about 150 lumens vs 600. -

Dunno if this has been done yet but running lead to the BB has been done here.
-
• #1121
Yeah. I considered it but supernova say the whole circuit has to be connected through the rear light so did it for warranty/peace of mind reasons.
I guess ^this makes routing easier on honjo mudguards as the lip is very tight. Berthouds are easier.

For road use I'm only really interested in beam length and throw in comparison to other lights, I'm not sure the low-speed mode is of any use until it comes to MTB stuff then I reckon it'd be dead useful.

Sinewave say the light can be mounted upsidedown as it's round and symmetrical, so I think you'd have to point it quite low to avoid frying the eyes of oncoming drivers.
I suppose as you'd want it mounted on the handlebars anyway, you could swivel it up or down as necessary.

MTB-specific, same as the E3 Triple then. I still want to try out one of the IQ-Xs to see if the lower power is compensated for by being able to aim it higher. It would help if I had a bike to test this though...

Yeah it's definitely an off-road beam.
They do say it can be used on-road, but that doesn't mean it would be a good idea...
Alternatively you can put a switch in the circuit, so that you're powering either the charger or the light.
