Love em!
Its been a polo dream of mine to score in netted goals. Cant wait to hear the swooshing of the ball hitting the net!
This tourney is going to be a goal banazza!
Only downside is games could be over very quick.

Had quite a lengthy chat with Hannes about rules, and I think it's worth highlighting the things that we are not used to here in London.
They have adopted some from the last Euros, some from Paris BFF, some are new to Karlsruhe.
Ball Joint and Lobs:
It is legal to lob the ball (’throw’ the ball with the mallet) and/or to travel with the ball using the ‘ball joint’ cupping style of carrying the ball but you cannot score with either method. If ball is cupped up to goals, it has to be passed once before scoring.
This also includes carrying the ball on the mallet egg & spoon style. After a goal is scored/resetting the game:
After a goal is scored, the scoring team must return to their own half and cannot come back across center court until the ball or any player of the conceding team has come past center court. The conceding team takes possession of the ball. No conceding player with or without the ball can then pass half court until at least two players of the scoring team have returned to their own half, one of these players can be a ‘goalie’ who was already in the goal area. A player is not required to tap out for a foot-down after a goal has been scored but must return to his own half.
No returning to the D, just your half of the court, read it carefully.‘Like’ contact that is allowed:
Non-aggressive body to body, mallet to mallet, and bike to bike. Apart from the fouls listed above. Players are allowed to tap goal keeper’s mallet.
You can hassle the goal keeper. The ref can call double tapouts and sin-bin players, even for the rest of the game!
Penalties can be:
- First accidentally foul = tap out
- Second accidentally foul or first purposely foul = double tap out
- Second double tap out = Time penalty
- Be removed from the game for a set time (Time penalties: 8 min game = 30 second penalty, 15 min = 45 sec, over 20 min = 1 min) or even permanently.
And this one is new:
After any kind of foul (except a foot-down), the fouled team gets possession of the ball.
- First accidentally foul = tap out

Wow, that's gonna be interesting, change of possession for fouls on a refs say so. Fun times.

potential reason to 'dive'...?
-
• #389
get's posession of the ball how and where? sounds very hard to regulate.
interesting though, should promote cleaner play. which is all good imo.

the goals looks stiff and professional, but maybe a little bit to long/wide?!?!

If anyone could possibly pick me up a T shirt in Medium, I'd be really happy! Willing to pay+beer!

I like the rules, but not sure about the distinction between a intentional and unintentional foul.
Who is reffing?
-
• #395
They will invite some people from each city to ref, and talk through the rules with them all before the tourney starts.
intentional or not is at the ref's discretion, as it has always been.

After *any kind of foul *(except a foot-down), the fouled team gets possession of the ball.
My only worry is that this can be used as time wasting... is the clock stopped?I would be tempted to do this for a foul which stops play ie injury, reffing debate?
Love the goals!

• #397
So you're saying that you would commit a foul, t-bone, pushing someone off, etc, to waste time, but also give the ball to the opposition? Ah, if you don't have possession anyway, yeah, could be a good way of time wasting.
As with all rules, it's at the refs discretion, some refs hardly ever call double-tapouts, some call them way too much.
-
• #398
yeah hear that...
maybe offending team may pass into corners of opponents side of the court to waste more time. -
• #399
Fundamentally i like the idea its a really fair method of dealing with a foul. I do think it should be used for certain cases... ie Bad fall/mechanical, where a team will use a foul as a tactic to scoring a goal. (blatant foul on keeper) this should be an instant swap of procession. oh and what happens to the offending team one obviously goes to tap out and the others? continue play? go back to their half of the court?

i am now really gutted i can't come.
sharp edge along the top side of the bottom piece, could have mounted the net on the inside to be safer imo. but not #ing their buzz
