  • If you're riding everyday, go for the 4 seasons

  • Who cares, they are Continentals and therefore utter shit.

    (I've got your back, hippy)

  • My front Rubino Pro let me down (quite literally) last week so I am going to get some Veloflex Pave tyres for the same reason.

I have one of these on the rear (dont skid), I'd say...

    grip = Very good indeed
    rolling resistance = very low
ride quality = feels fast and smooth because of the above two
Pcte resistance = one in 2,500 km or so on good roads
Value = they dont last very long and are quite pricey, so not so good

MIne need replacing very soon, and I'm just going to throw on another Pave. Together with latex inners (and a Master on the front), its the ultimate clincher set-up for me.

  • Anyone know the difference between Continental GP4000S and GP 4 Seasons? As far as I can tell the 4 Seasons are longer lasting but heavier... is the grip roughly the same? The GP4000S have the Black Chili compound which according to their marketing is the best thing ever invented, but the 4 Seasons have some other compound. Cost seems exactly the same, don't know which to go for.

    i have both tyres
    4000s on road bike
    4-seasons on fixed bike.

the gp's are a nice grippy fast rolling tyre which is why they are on my road bike
the 4-seasons are a grippy tyre with good puncture protection and a better ride than a gatorskin which is why they are on my fixed.

i guess the 4000's will wear a bit quicker but not really bothered about that. if these are for a commuter/short journey bike then get the 4-seasons

they seem suited to their respective bikes and the kind of riding i do on them.

  • Pcte resistance = one in 2,500 km or so on good roads

    Scared to say puncture?

Ive been tempting fate telling everyone that I have never ever had a puncture on a 700c tyre except when theyve been skidded through and I was totally expecting it.

The tyres ive used have not been anything fantastic either.

camel tyres (about £4 each, worst tyres ever)
    Conti Ultra sport
    Cheap Rubino's
    Ultra gatorskin

    No Punctures.

Thanks. I just ordered a pair from Westbrookcycles.

was'nt the ProBikeKit link I posted cheaper?

Now go buy some latex inners ;)

  • conti 4season hands down best winter tyre ever!

i've been using mine for almost 2 months without 1 puncture and i use it everyday rain or shine

  • Never lost your front end?

  • Never lost your front end?

I haven't ever with any tyre. What are you doing with your bikes? Cornering in the wet at 30mph or something?

  • not once, almost when i went over a metal grate when it was pissing down, but as soon as the front was back on tarmac it gripped up the road again

  • was'nt the ProBikeKit link I posted cheaper?

Yes but it said out of stock. Latex inners? What for - low weight? I haven't got tome to pump them up twice a day.

  • Never lost your front end?

Only when I have locked the front brake up on my mountain bikes ... never on a racing bike or a SS, the brakes even when grabbed don't have enough to let me lose the front. Though I corner carefully.

  • Conti 4 Seasons.....
sidewall is shit (one tiny tear becomes a cavernous hole after time )but grip is fantabulous, soft rubber you see.

  • Fantabulous, but is it griptastic?

  • Schwalbe Durano (Plus). Been using them in the wet for a few months. Pretty confident going into corners (apart from nearly coming down when going over a wet metal grate). Cheaper than conti 4 seasons (at around £18). I like the conti 4000s but I wouldn't use them on a fixed, as they are proper race tyres and would be wasted hacking around in the winter on them.

  • Fantabulous, but is it griptastic?

    :)

  • Anyone running Panaracer Pasela TG City Tyres? I'm thinkng of getting these for my geared bike. I do 13 miles to work and 13 back in most weather. Looking for something grippy in the wet with good puncture protection and gum walls. These any good?

oh and has anyones got any recomendations for cleaning the sidewalls when they get covered in brake dirt n shit?

    ?

  • Anyone know a London Bike Shop that sells the Maxxis Refuse and the Vittoria Radonneur? Everywhere seems to just sell Armadillos, race lites or gatorskins.

  • If you're riding everyday, go for the 4 seasons

    not the vittoria randonneur?

  • Well it depends if you want a fast road tyre or a slightly wider touring tyre.

Would like to find the same thing. I just ordered some Refuse online but it would be nice to be able to know of a shop.

  • If you want 28-32C or over I would say go with the Randos, anything smaller and I guess schwalbes, contis or Refuse are a good choice, I have no experience of the Refuses, all schwalbe tyres i've used have been great, and they just work exactly as they say they will, Contis are good but they do not last long at all from my experiences, and the sidewalls are weaker than a wet rizla.

  • Had a recommendation last night at wests from Ma3k for schwalbe marathon plus. They look like they'd grip well in nasty conditions and apparently punctures are non existent. Smallest in 25c.
