  • Going via Newhaven-Dieppe the scenic route is about 200 miles, it's easily possible in a day esp if you don't carry much. Took us about 30 hours in total last Sept but we had over 20kgs of luggage each, only had 3 hours sleep on the night ferry though.. I've done this route 3 times in the last couple of years with a Garmin so if you need some route advice shout.

  • Gidday, anyone want to ride London 2 Paris with me on 3rd/4th of Sept? I'll be on my road bike, averaging about 32km/hr probably. Hoping to go through Dieppe, overnight somewhere and smash it out in 2 days total. I'll have my girlfriend in a support car to carry gear. I don't really know the route so hoping someone can join me who does! First time and all that. I'm a Kiwi expat living in London and this is on my list of boxes to tick before i have to leave this country...
Anyone welcome - get in touch! Matt - 07570094019
    Cheers

  • it comes in at around 180miles... for the newhaven to dieppe-paris route. you will be bound by the number of available bike spaces and the ferry times. also i would plan it so you hit the last 30-40 miles in daylight as i wouldn't not want to navigate the 5 national parks you go through prior to hitting the city at night without streetlights.

it has been done in 11 hrs i think... http://www.donaldhirsch.com/dieppeparis.html

the avenue vert stretch after dieppe could be done in the dark as it is tarmac railway line.

  • I nearly signed up for this years one but changed my mind when I realised it clashes with Glastonbury.

No Glasto next year means I'll probably have a go.

  • would like to do this with you man but am booked up with other things.
good luck though, it's a great ride. did london/newhaven/dieppe/paris last november as an overnighter. made it to about 10 miles outside paris in about 26 hours. we decided to bail and get a train in there as we were fuck tired and worried about getting in through traffic in that state.
didnt bother with trying to find the railway line route, just took the D915 most of the way. lovely for the first bit but beware the many many miles of pretty featureless french farmlands, the lack of visual stimulus can really contribute to those disappearing into your own head periods you get on 100 mile + rides. hope you find some riding partners for this mission.
